Applied Aerodynamics: Wake Turbulence and Contrailsby B74AComment: Thank you for all the comments.
This entry did a lot worse than I thought. Some thought it was taken with a powerful zoom from the ground (?), but it is taken inflight, as traffic is passing above. When two jet aircraft are passing head on (at different levels, preferrably!), it takes about 3 seconds for each mile you are losing in. Add to that the difficulty of focussing through the thick and multilayered windscreen, and it is somewhat a challenge to get it sharp. The sky is very clean blue aloft, so although I tried to adjust color and contrast, it is not far from what it looks like for real. I used to fly Learjets, and have been up to 48000 feet on one occasion. Besides being very clear from here that the Earth is round, the blue in the sky gets darker and darker, as one is almost at the edge of space here (not much more than 10-15% left here of the mass of the Atmosphere). |

My Hope is Feeling Wornby she_isComment: Very emotive ... I would probably have cloned away the light spots on the soles ...
Btw, if you want to play with this, crop it closer, flip it upside down, then play with curves, levels, sat and so on. Message edited by author 2008-01-03 05:57:28. |

Ground Sky Lightning Rainby B74AComment: Originally posted by she_is: Thank you for the comment on my SP :)
This is a nice shot of lightning, I have yet to capture one of these! |
I did not do that many shots like these either. It did take a lot of attempts, as there were long time between the lightnings. I am fast, but I cannot press the shutter release before lightning strikes! |

What a surprise that 1) you did not ribbon and 2) my own entry did better than your most amazing picture!

On your marksby JonathanJComment: This is a really nice picture, too bad it ranked so low, as it really rocks! As mentioned, would have been good in the perspective, especially with the 3-2-1 even closer to the camera.
Happy New Year! |
