| 06/27/2008 04:06:57 PM | A day in the park with the twins...by iceMan71Comment: Wow, thanks for all the nice comments. I was not expecting the 5th place to be honest and I did not actually shot this for the challenge. I was trying my new 70-200 2.8L IS and just got this shot by chance. If I was shotting it for the challenge probably I would have gone with an f/2.8 to get even more shallow dof.
Some self critique:
- I have to agree that this is not a portrait shot per se, but looks like most of the people are ok with that ;-)
- I really wanted to get a color version for the challenge but just couldn't get the colors right with the jpeg version. So I ended up going with bw... Color version has a bit more 3d effect. Lesson's learned: Will go back to shooting raw or at least try to use the right white balance; never use the autobalance when shooting jpeg at all... Well, I'm glad again most of the people liked the bw version.
Thanks again everybody for the comments and votes. And the biggest thanks go to my beautiful twin daughters of course... Message edited by author 2008-06-27 16:08:18. |

| 03/10/2007 10:12:23 PM | Millennium Falconby iceMan71Comment: Then I'm taking this as a compliment because I took the shot of Millennium Falcon down in my basement and the background stars at a campsite at the Waterton/Glacier National Park ;-)
Thanks!
If you still have doubts, check the 3D version. Star Wars was not taken in 3D, so there is no way you can find the 3D shot anywhere else... Other than another geek's website I guess. |

It is a trial shot to test the light, cropping and playing around with merging two shots.

I did not drop the camera but I got so much dust in the camera while changing the lens up there... It took a full day of work to clean it out ;-) |
| 01/26/2007 01:55:53 AM | Life Over Turbulent Waters IIby iceMan71Comment: Wow, I was not aware that so many people on dpc have a serious allergy to selective saturation. Well, it is good to know :-)))
Nice catch about the halo-ing around the wings issue. I must admit, I was lazy about the selection. The color on the background was cyan-blue dominated, I did not bother doing any selection. Well the halo is because of that ;-)
As for the blown highlights, I agree. Again because of laziness... I edited this version for printing and did not bother to edit it again for screen.
Well, thanks for the comments, I appreciate them... Message edited by author 2007-01-27 16:54:34. |
| 11/11/2006 03:26:06 AM | Winter is back... End of harvest season.by iceMan71Comment: Thanks for the comments... However, I don't necessarily agree with some of them, but totally respect your views. Nothing much to say for the person who gave a 0 for overall opinion, a 2 for meeting the challenge (thanks!) and a bunch of 1's though.
Anyways, this was an abstractish approach, so I was not expecting a very high point. Actually, I'm impressed with a point higher than 5. Well, I was not very happy with a couple of things myself, so I'll edit it again based on some of the comments and put a print of it in my office. |
| 10/31/2006 01:31:14 AM | Wall of lightby GoldBerryComment: Well, the hair in front of the face and the shadow just works perfect. I wouldn't touch it. That's one of the main punches of the shot I believe. The only thing that bugs me about this shot is the shadow of the hair on the wall, and the change of light on the right side of the window... Anyways, cool shot. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Kind of hard to get the b&w conversion right with the old version of Photoshop. Will try it again once I get a newer version of photoshop with the channel mixer. I'm not extremely happy with my other b&ws either ;-). |
