good idea. would have scored this much higher with better lighting. 5.

this is so high key (at least on my monitor) that you can hardly make out any detail, making it difficult to evaluate your use of shallow dof. the tree (twig?) in the upper left stands out not because of shallow dof, but because it is the only (slightly) lower key element in the frame except for the shadow in the extreme foreground. sorry - 3.

meets the challenge, but I don't like the composition. the subject (at least at this angle), would seem to lend itself for to a macro or close shot than a shallow dof shot. sorry - 4.

dof is shallow, but the kids would have popped out even more if the dof was greater, and you had zoomed (or stood) in closer. sorry - 5.

nice candid capture. should have made this bigger. i like the vingetting, but the background feels like it is out of focus because of being blown out on the exposure and perhaps camera shake rather than a deliberate use of shallow dof. whatever is cutting through the upper left of the frame is also very distracting. sorry - 5.

Comment:
because the front of the train is turned toward the camera, the in focus area takes up too little of the picture--my eye keeps getting drawn back to the rest of the train, which is frustratingly out of focus. if the train had been going all in one line, so that the engine was at an angle to the camera, I think this would have worked better. lighting is a flat as well. sorry - 4.

nice expression and a pretty good use of natural light. would have been a better picture (imho) if you had got in closer to the face to make it more like a portrait.

looking at this on my second time through and am bumping this up to a 7. composition and colors are nice and dof is used well. it does feel a little heavy to the left side and the lighting, while not bad, seems a little dull.

meets the challenge and is nice composition, but the exposure is too dark and the light feels flat on my monitor. sorry - 5.
