It's a cross section of an ammonoid, Nautilus. Although the chambers looks like they have been mineralized so it's likely an ammonite.

I love the rocks at the falls! You can look up "columnar jointing" and learn more about the geological setting of that area....The falls are situated in what appears to have been one or more huge basaltic lava flows! Just beautiful examples of it! Bravo!

Thanks! I didn't get the secondary flight feathers for which it gets its "waxwing" name from unfortunately. These guys are best photographed in the spring, early in the morning when they're eating choke cherries or staying warm from the chilly mornings.

Wow, fantastic shots! Did you find that using a 100mm macro enabled you to take the shot versus something with a shorter focal length? I have a 60mm macro for my XT and I find that insects tend to skit away when I attempt to photograph them. Handheld or tripod?
