The Swimming Poolby noranekoComment: Aperture magazine publishes art like this. Pleasingly different from traditional-salon pretty picture images. I gave it a high score. |

Points of interestby mariucaComment: The stands holding up a barrier guide, the bare walls, and their clothing all suggest a gallery or museum) setting. How refreshing to omit the artwork. Great choice of moment, though-provoking differences in expression and pose. Monochrome works well. |

Swingby bob350Comment: Originally posted by glad2badad: Looking forward to the story on this one. |
Each year, an area farm puts on a harvest festival with many things for kids to do. We took my daughters and grandson for an afternoon. There was a large dark barn with open sides. Swings hang from the tall rafters. The person swinging in this image looked like a silhouette against a light-colored climbing wall beyond the far side of the barn. It took several shots to have a pose without feet twisted or arms flailing. Perhaps I could have waited for a more petite subject, but you can't abandon family in such settings.
After leveling and cropping to 16:9 ratio, I applied a threshold adjustment layer and used a healing brush to remove a few persistent blotches on the background. I made a separate version with a bit more white added at the bottom. That looks better, but such expansion is not allowed in DPC standard editing. |

The Way of Bouquetby posthumousComment: Quietly noticing beauty at any stage of the cycle of life fits the challenge well in my opinion. Thought provoking and lovely image. |

Flowers for Wedding by bob350Comment: The flowers mainly have my oldest daughter to thank, as she collected the blooms from her garden and put together the arrangements in preparation for her sister's back yard wedding reception party. I did use Dynamic Auto Painter set to "Monet" to generate a painterly effect that I applied as a layer with partial opacity. But I masked out the majority of the effect over the flowers themselves, which is why there might be a somewhat naturalistic impression. Late afternoon sun illuminated the flowers, which received a bit of additional brightening with curves and were brought out further with a bit of clarity adjustment and set off by a mild vignette. Lovely afternoon, and I am glad to have this image from that day. |
