Dream or nightmare or elements of both - the image evokes a sense of unreality in which core feelings and ideas anchor us more than subject and object in ordinary worlds. Element of flight, subtly light, contrast objectively and conceptually with the darker elements. High art. High score.

This is one of my two favorites in the challenge. The bright bird feathers evoke the idea of freedom to leave undesired circumstances, while the wood grain patterns provide an anchor to mundane reality. Dark background is uniform enough to simplify the image, allowing us to focus on the bird and dried leaf/twig. Scratchy texture provides a sort of graphic interest, but may not have been necessary.

Amazing how this captures my eye. I don't want to like it, but I do - very much. This looks a lot like what we might see set up in a modern art museum gallery to display an artistic comment on cultural elements of the season.
