Occasionally, we adopt a world view of cynicism, or adopt a general attitude of negativity or disgust as a way of avoiding our low self-esteem, and sometimes completely unconsciously until someone else points out how negative we're being. Such a view colors our expectations. We take a position of judgment that focuses on the poor behavior or attitudes of others, persuade ourselves that this bad behavior or human failing is the rule rather than the exception and react out of that cynicism most if not all the time. It serves to protect us by separating us from the hurly-burly of the real world. The cynical or negative or disgusted position is distant, unengaged, uninvolved.

No, MandarinElements has posted some very thoughtful comments, if you actually look. |

lisae...c'mon...her stuff is pretentious 12 year old drivel. That coming from a dad of a 14 year old girl.
Just to make sure I wasn't "out of touch" I showed MandarinElement's comments to my daughter..she concurred..laughing..back to her room.
As far as melzymel. Guys, this is a public messageboard. As such every disfuntional closet dweller that has an AOL account with a 1000 free minutes can come here to harrass people. Just be glad you don't have to live their lives and take some more photo's :-) |

Hehe, "thoughtful" doesn't imply good, or perceptive, or anything like that. I just don't think she's trolling the way Melzymel is, she's giving her opinions the same way most of us do, even if they're pretentious drivel. There's plenty of pretentious 20-something or middle-aged drivel here to compensate :) |

Well, I'll take drivel from a guy who has had to feed himself, pay rent, buy car insurance, have a job and maybe have a personal relationship or two beyond "Teen Beat" magazine over 12 year old drivel anyday :-)

I don't see why I cannot make a comment on photo's, there is a spot to do so. I am not acting like a 12 year old, I am VOTING on photos, and what I think they deserve. Some people are to picky. As for the name calling, I would never call anyone I don't even know something so low or anything for that matter. |

Mel, I'm just curious. When you post "Oh" as a comment, what does that mean exactly? "Oh, I love the photo." "Oh, I hate the photo." "Oh, I have to stop voting because I have to move my bowels in a hurry before I stain my pants???" Or is it something else altogether? Please explain. Thanks. |

Hi, This is day 1 for me here and I should probably stay out of this, but...
Folks like mel crave attention. They try to disrupt what grownups are doing so they will be noticed. As the father of a three year old I offer this advice:
If everyone ignores the tantrum, she/he/it will stop or go away.
I'm not sure I'm posting in this challange as 2 days is kind of short to capture "City Life", but I'll go for a walk and see if I get lucky. Otherwise I look forward to your comments on next weeks challange.
My 2 cents.

I think she means "Oh, I'm such a c*nt".

Welcome to the site. I'm sorry that new users have to see things like this but unfortunately there are people in our world like this. Good luck on the picture taking and may the images of your eye make it gracefully to your screen. :)
