I have saved up enough cash to buy the D100 should I save for a while longer and get the D70. What is the difference between the two cameras?

Actually, I think the D70 is cheaper than the D100.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, I think they are pretty similar except for the fact that the D70 has newer technology in it.
Don't quite know tho, I have a D100 and am very happy with it. |

d70 is better in most aspects, just cuz it's newer. d100 has a better/stronger body though.

thanks all the info you gave me and the link that eddy gave me realy helped out a lot. I found I can get a d-100 for around $400 less than a D70. They apear to be close enough and my budget tight enough o lean towards the d-100. I also like the fact that the d-70 uses AA batteries. that should save me a mint on battery packs alone.. Once again thanks all

You can use AA batteries with the D70? I didn't know that. I have a couple Nikon Battery packs (that give me really good results). I wonder if that's what the adaptor that came with the camera is for, I've never used it. Anybody know? |

you can't use AA batteries with the D70. the adapter included with the kit is for CR2 batteries, which in all fairness look similar to AA batteries.

| The D70 DOES NOT use AA...the adapter is for CR2 batteries. |

Thanks! That's what I thought, but I couldn't remember.
On a side note, I don't think that using or not AA batteries would make that much difference in deciding for or against the D70. The kit comes with one battery pack and the quick charger (really works well), and a second battery pack is not that expensive. |

If you get the battery grip it does :-)
I have been using mostly my D70 as of late, but do miss the feel and size of the D100 with the battery grip on it. I have a photoshoot tomorrow, and will likey use the D70 due to it's faster flash sync, otherwise I'd probably use the D100.
Both are great cameras and will produce great results.

It does?
The thing that irks me about the D70 is having to go into the menu to change the ISO settings. D100 gives you a convenient dial on top..as it should be.

the d70 has faster fps. than the d100 it also (for most) feels better in your hand more stream line and the grip 1 can really take too.
but the d70 is not considdred pro. where as the d100 is the biggest reasion seems to be that the d70 does not dump shots direct to a laptop where as (if i am no misstaken) the d100 does.
because of the fast that i am not set up at all with a studio except for desk laps and sheets, +construction paper. i went with the d70 the hand holding thing was big for me lots of my shots come from out in the field my cams. do not just sit on a tripod i my house or room.
also the fps. are so nice on the d70 they make it a more virsitail camera with the added bonus of the continous shooting mode not stoping for at least 25 shots(or around there).
overall i think that for the money the D70 is the camera to go with and u can't beat the rating of best consumer rated Digital SLR.
if you R worried about the comp. connection draw back buy a 2GB micro drive or an 8GB CF card with the money u save by getting the 70.
i belive that the d70 is around $1299.99 and the d100 is $1499.99

There is a button on the back of the D70 that when pressed allows you to change the ISO from the command dial. |

actualy all u do to change the ISO is press the buttom on the back that says ISO and then look at the display on top as u spin the (slection weel) weel with eigther your frist finger or thumb.
you will see it change.
for $1299.99 u would hope the nikon ppl. would give u finger tip acess and they do.

You just have to make sure you're not looking at a picture on the viewer in the back (I forgot the name of the thing). The ISO button/wheel combination only works if nothing else is on the viewer. Man, somebody please rephrase this! I know what I want to say, but the words are just not there.

you got a 100 cheaper than a 70??? I must have bought from the wrong guy! |

get a d70...if for no other reason, because it's compatible with the sb800/600 in many modes that the d100 is. With the firmware upgrade, the d70 is excellent.
The only advantage to the d100 is that the body is a bit stronger.
