My mother wants to give a print of my "Broken" challenge picture to a pastor friend. She wanted me to make it into a poster, since he works with prison inmates. This is my first draft - comments and suggestions welcome.
Thanks,

Looks good. I think I would move the quote up a bit tho, it looks too close to the bottom at the moment.

It's such a great shot, and it looks amazing as a poster. My only issue is with the font choices. The "broken" is too playful looking, and the psalm is too blocky. If that makes sense. I don't think the font matched the photo, but the poster looks great nonetheless! |

Yes, I realize that things don't line up exactly, everything isn't centered perfectly either. I wanted to get the "look" right before I spend the time to refine it.
Thanks,

I have wondered about the font also. Any suggestions? I didn't want just a plain Times New Roman.

I'm a fan of Copperplate, Garamond, and Georgia font...and you can space the font out, too, which has a nice effect. I don't care for Times New Roman, I like a bit more character in my characters!
But I think B R O K E N should be broken up a bit, and the psalm could be in italics?

Try "Ringebearer", a free font that was designed for LOTR. It's a true "broken font".

Ok, here is my final version. The original is sized for 11x14 at 300 dpi. Thanks for all your comments!

That would look really sharp plaque mounted on MDF board, like you see many inspirational/motivational type posters done. Is that the way you had planned on doing it? Good job. I know in Canada, you can walk in off the street and Staples/Office Depot will do it (not to keen on their quality though). I'm sure some art framers in your area would offer this service.

Yes, that was the intent. Model it after the inspirational posters that are so prevelent. I think there was even a challenge like that at some point.

Chad,
Looks like you found Ringbearer? Sweet, huh?
Consider a hair more separation between the text and the "psalms" attribution, and have the "psalms" part a little smaller font size than the actual quote.
Nice work, Robt.

many motivational posters seem to use a font called trajan - it is an adobe font.

For those of you who don't know the font Ringbearer, it's a very detail;ed "broken" font, and it does not show to advantage in the size/resolution this image is linked to. Should be sharp as a tack in the hi-res version, and will look really godd.

A good site for free fonts of all kind is dafont.com. You can chose a category and type in a test word, like 'BROKEN'. The site immediately gives you a preview of what your text looks like with the different fonts.
An example with BROKEN as text.
