Nikon AF 70-300mm.
Anyone know if this is a good lens? Someone at my school is selling it because they sold their 35mm camera. Should I jump at this offer? The lens is brand new. Bit of a slower lens (4-5.6)

| Seems to be the going rate for a 70-300. Walmart closed them out a while ago at $150. Most online camera stores are selling them for about $85-$120. I have one and enjoy it but I am looking forward to upgrading to better glass...... |

| Thanks. Yeah, I'm looking around right now online and I found the same info. Its a "g" type if that makes any difference. Whats another alternative lens that similar but with better glass? Also is there another lens with a similar zoom but faster? |

For a used lens? No. Not unless it is in like new condition, which they rarely ever are. Price new with warranty is about $135 and you can get them used all day long on ebay for $65 or $70. It is far from a great lens anyway. A lens with this much zoom range - 70-300 = 230mm zoom - with a variable max aperture is going to hunt bad in AF.

This same lens is available new for $129.88 at Amazon.

So the question arrives again: The 70-300mm G orD?
I am still starting out so I don't know if I need the higher quality lense yet, but is the G just not worth it at all?
