That fact is, you are not selling your camera for $10 so stop acting like you are and posting threads that claim as such.
Joe
I think Ebay should ban users who use this type of false marketing. |
These are the same people whining who fall for obvious advertising every day..if you didn't then we wouldn't live in a consumerist society now would we?. Give it a rest already.. |
You can call it whining if you want.. I call it speaking out against obvious scams. I don't think anyone fell for this thread, but that doesn't make it 'ok' for me. Justify as you will.

While a large number of readers makes it excellent advertising, it doesn't change whether or not it was deceptive.
Describing it as "for sale, starting bid $10" is honest. To describe it as "for sale, $10" IS deceptive in the sense that you yourself say that you would never sell if for $10.
When I first saw the title I assumed it would be another thread warning of the Amazon-like scams; I never for a moment thought it would be someone genuinely trying to sell a camera because, as you say, nobody would seriously sell a 300D for $10. So yes, you got lots of views - but how many of them were assuming it was some sort of scam? |

Forgive me if this has been said already (I skipped a few posts). The aim of a 'title' with a for sale item is to get peoples interest, its not the only 300D for sale and it certainly stands out!
There are enough posts here about rip off sales and anybody who thinks they can buy a 300D for $10 needs shooting. nsbca7 has done what was intended, got interest for the item. Everybody seems to be going on about deception! the ebay item does not state the 300D is for sale for $10 and the first line inside this thread is "I have a $10 starting price on my 300D currently listed on Ebay." the deception is where exactly? I guess anybody wanting to buy the rebel for $10 would not have read past that?

Joe, you sound like a six year old girl who just wet here pants because she couldn't have the cookie with the sprinkles on it.
If all you want to do is bitch go here to a thread especially for you and all your six year old friends. Leave this thread for someone who might actually be interested in a camera.

Does ebay have any love up for auction. We all need to bid on a little bit of love.
There's no reserve on love, folks.

I think that is being deceptive. I mean having something for sale without a reserve but not putting up a link and failling to state the price. What if I want to buy some love? Are there hidden expences you are not telling us about? What about room rentals and prophylatics? Are they thrown in and if not how much are they. Now you may think doing business this way is OK, but that doesn't make it 'ok' for me. Justify as you will.
Sounds kind of silly, don't it?

Nice attitude to have because someone called you out on your scam. If someone disagreeing with your practices and freely stating so is bitching then you're in for alot of headache. Run your life and business as you see fit but don't be suprised when nobody wants to do business with you.
Let me be the first to point out the comical irony of you 'bitching' about my 'bitching'.

Don't you have somewhere to be. You have a Nikon system, right? So what are you even doing here, just playing the part of troll? Go start your own thread.

Your attempts are laughable. I disagree therefor I'm a troll? I use nikon so I'm not allowed to read canon threads? Please, and you call me a six year old girl. I'll leave your thread.

Man, this is a funny thread. Especially the cross-thread about the bridge.
nsbca7, I've disagreed with you in the past but I agree with you whole-heartedly on this.
Anybody that uses eBay on a regular basis or has every auctioned knows this is how it is done. I am amazed to see how many potential 'buyers' on eBay ask the seller what the reserve price is. Bid and find out.
If you put the minimum bid high then bidding may never start. A lower opening does play on people's stupidity. We all do it though. We've all fell for sales where things we marked "prices starting at some low price" when the good stuff was priced much higher.
I saw this when you first posted and thought 'Hey that's a good idea'. I can't believe how you were attacked for it. |

I must be drunk, I thought someone actually thought they would be getting a 300D for $10...if they are stupid enough to believe that, then they should join me in my padded room!!
Best ever listing on eBay was 'Nothing...I am selling nothing. I have plenty of it, there is nothing in my pockets. There is nothing in my bank account. The winning bidder will get, on payment, an envelope with nothing in it. It will careful wrapped so it doesn't get damaged.'
Someone paid $10 + pp for it!! Now that's the buyer you want!!

I think it's safe to say that anyone who doesn't like the "Rebel for $10" style of selling should probably steer well clear of Ebay. This kind of thing might be deceptive (if you're really dumb) but it's standard practice on ebay.
I would encourage anyone that was offended by it to buy from someone else, just like nsbca7 said. Ritz or B&H would be good places to start. Ebay is just going to make you mad.

i am with you on this one. As you know if previous recent posts i am researching 300d's. I know absolutely nothing about ebay but even i know what nsbca is on about. Nobody in there right minds think you can get a 300d for $10 (unless it is a nasty divorce and the wife is trying to get back at hubby out of spite). |
