I noticed some great deals at Express Camera.
Is anyone familiar with these guys? I'm ready to spend a good deal of money and just playing safe.
Thanks.

Check their rating here.
I wouldn't purchase anything from them. |

what about A & M photo?
They advertise some pretty unbelievable prices for Canon and Nikon dSLR bodies (e.g. EOS-300D - $449!), and they claim thay are brand new (I called in). Anyone has any info?

Just look on reseller ratings where the other link took you. It's quite entertaining to read the customer comments. Then be glad you are not a customer.
Use the search for a company box at the top of the page to find any other company you are looking for.
I've heard good things about buydig.com. I've bought most my stuff from Dell, you can get good discounts with stackable coupons by checking coupon sites like xpbargains.com.

Notice these people don't tell you what lens is on the camera... That's a warnign sign right there. A lot of these really cheap sites (I've said this before) are selling graymarket cameras; serial numbers for the Asian market, and USA users cannot get support for them, or sometimes even warranties.

I am looking into a Canon EOS 300D and the best price I found is.
Wal-mart
Wal-mart is a trust worthy company so I don't see a problem there. I would rather pay more for piece of mind from the company I am getting it from. Just my OPINION

ok, I just checked with A & M photo, indeed their cameras don't carry any USA warranty (however they are brand new). But I am wondering, is the warranty worth extra $400 or so? My prior experience with Nikon SLRs tells me that they have been pretty reliable and last for a lot longer than 1 yr, and after 1yr - it's all the same anyway.
am I wrong? |

Just remember that Walmart will charge you with taxes, so I guess will be 80 to 90 dlls more. I bought mine in B&H, got good price and fast delivery. |

additional piece of info on the gray maket stuff.
I just called one of the independent (but Nikon authorized) repair outlets here in San Diego, they say official Nikon service centers WILL NOT repair gray market cameras even for money. But independent authrized dealers can do that (even though Nikon frowns on that). However, speaking of Nikon D70 (which I am specifically looking at), they still did not receive any Nikon training for it, and they don't know when they will get it (may take a while)
So... something to think about...

The warranty usually isn't the only thing missing. It's common for them to pull out the battery and charger, neckstrap, even users manual, and then sell them seperatly for outrageous prices.
Do yourself a favor. Avoid these kind of dealers!

It's not just the warranty, simring, it's the ability to access online help and downloads. You need a valid serial number. I didn't knwo about this stuff when I got my Nikon, and I can't download the latest versions of Nikon software.
I have written to them and explained I'm a lifelong Nikon user who had NO idea he was buying a graymarket camera (it was top dollar, when the camera first came out, I went with the site that had them in stock), and they just told me "tough titty"...
Left a bad taste in my mouth...

you're right. I checked with this a&m place again, and their super-cheap cameras are shipped without a battery nor a charger, and it would cost me almost $200 to add them. Who knows what else is missing there. So I decided not to do this bottom-fishing and just ordered a Nikon d70 from B&H ($799 with rebate). I hope I won't regret it!
Thanks guys for very helpful (and timely) advice! |

Just a reminder to all DPC users: please give fair warning about the links you post here. Many people do not wish to click on links that will cause advert pop-ups or other unsavoury activities to begin without their consent!
Cheers!
PS: Ultimately the responsibility for clicking a link belongs to the clicker, but a description of what the link is, is gracious and appreciated.

I recently purchased my Rebel from here..
Buydig.com
I bought the body only, since I had lenses for my EOS Elan II. I got the body for under $800 with expedited shipping...and am currently awaiting my $100.00 rebate. I was pretty happy working with them. |

I agree with the above posts.
B&H is the way to go.
I have also had good experiences with Buydig.
If the price looks to good to be true most likely you are going to get ripped off. |

I wouldnt hit express cameras with a 10 foot pole.
Call up dell, ask for 15% off or whatever you can get, and theyll just take it off. lol. I called a certain extension posted on some other forum for a 20d, and i asked for 15 percent off and they just gave it to me with free shipping.
