A lot of people in the park. A lot of orange (saffron if you must) in the park. A lot of cameras in the park. Here's my take:

I burned and dodged the eye and eye makeup (I know it looks a little bruised, this is still a work in progress...) Dodged out some dark under the eyes. Selective sharpening using find edges masking.

Comments and critiques appreciated. Also, any tips on smoothing out wrinkles in PS w/o killing all facial detail?

Here's a slightly more doctored shot. Used a quickmask gradient to apply different curves adjustments to the sky and foreground regions.

At some point I used shadow/highlight and the halos show from that, so I', thinking of redoing the entire post process w/o it.

Comments, suggestions?

I like the first shot and in particular the reflexion in the models eye.

The saffron(yeah...ok)colored gates bugged me to no end. I thought it was a terrible color for the park and didn't blend in any way. IMHO they could have done a lot better. C'est la vie.

Outside of the obvious shots, I thought this one was interesting due to the breeze that I noticed whipping up but sadly a dash out of focus, due to the million people who were hovering over me, making it impossible to get the perfect settings. Can't win'em all.

Give it a look.

Why did the artists not wait until spring to do the installation? After all, they had to wait 25 years for a billionaire art collecting mayor to get behind the project. What's another few weeks? I like the model shot best BTW.

Actually, they did it in February on purpose. They said that was the only month where there were no leaves on the trees, so you can actually see more of the gates throughout the park. I agree that the colors would have been better in the spring, but it works on a dreary February day as well.

That's a fact. There were more cameras per capita that I've ever seen in my entire life. There are only three photogs in this shot but it gives you a slight idea of what the scene was like.

Bikeracer,

Your first shot (eyeball shot) is excellent as it is, I'd not want to get rid of those facial wrinkles. They are not "bad" wrinkles. However, if you did want to smooth them out, the "healing brush" in PS is the way to go. Use "help" if you don't know how to use it, it's easy.

Cool image. I would ove seeing a bit more colour (a bit less darkness) in the gates in the distances. The gates are such a nice colour. Show a little bit more of them.

I like this one too, but the fact that the trees are leaning right and the way the top bar of each gates fades from upper left to lower right gives the impression this photo is not quite level.

I hope you don't mind, but I just very quickly rotated the image 4 degrees CCW in PS 7. Didn't re-crop.

I find it looks more balanced like this.

pawdrix: thanks. and i share your frustration with how many people were there, making it impossible to set up a shot.

bear_music: thanks for the tip, i didn't think of using the healing brush. i don't mind the wrinkles, btw, it's my gf... she hates seeing them.

beagleboy: thanks, i need to work on the blend, i want the sky dark and saturated, but can't get it that way without making the trees and buildings really dark. i'm going to try a blending of two raw exposures next.
