How do you know if viewers have made comments? |

In the Preferences, check the box that allows current stats to show on your DPC home page. (my home). Then, the number of comments will be highlighted in blue on your home page... click on that.

boyte 1 is right, forums are good, but on Monday, you'll see who made the comments, and you can respond directly to them if you'd like. Also, you can add a comment to your own photo when the challenge is done to respond in general to all the comments made on your photo.

My photo was of an old building that is being repaired.I had hoped to convey this as a sense of life,of the building, and of the city. All too often people tear these beautiful buildings down. When they do is it not the "death" of that part of the city?Perhaps I didnt do a good enough job to show this, or people need to see someone crossing a street to see life in city.I will try to be more literal in my next attempt. |

My personal opinion is that you shouldn't change your interpretation to make others happy. Moreover, I think people who demand a living thing in your photo for 'city life' are absolutely ridiculous. You've just got to be kidding me...

Well Drew, maybe the assignment should have just been "City".
The topic was "City Life" and the photos I rated highly, gave me a feel for what it was like to live in a city. Buildings are great, but it is the people, and how they act/react that I voted gave the top scores too.

I have seen several pictures in the current challenge and can think of a couple I wanted to take that would have had no people in them that did just this. I can certainly see where some people may not like a cityscape shot for this challenge, but shots of buildings with all their lights, shots of buildings that dwarf the viewer .. that's exactly what I feel overwhelmed by when I'm in a typical metropolitan city. Shots that build a mood for me do not have to have people in them to show city life. To view it more abstractly, the photographer (and the viewer) are 'living' in the city through the photo. I'd much rather be put into this perspective than look at documentary-style photographs of people in parks and museums.

I agree with Drew ... City Life ... or shall i say "life" doesnt always mean you have to see people to see life ... or for this challenge .. city life ... some people may have captured and image in their own city that does have life to it - just not in a way that "big cities" have or even "small cities" .. the challenge suggested that "city life" may or may not be relevant to the "city" you live in ... and not all cities are the same ... and people need to realize this as they are looking that the images to vote on. Monday ... I will explain my photo in the comment section once the voting is over ... since about 80% of my comments are asking me the same question about "where is the life?"
