ok, I was researching on buying a new camera because I think it is time. And I found a great deal on Kodak Pro SLR/c 14mp
I read some reviews on it, but I wanted to get an opinion from people who might have seen it or used it.

THANK YOU

If you already have Canon lense you are in good shape.

doesnt it come in canon and nikon mounts? maybe i dont know what im talking about.
I do know this is much more of a studio camera than a action/journalist type of camera. it is not fast but obviosly high resolution

Pro SLR/n is the Nikon version. I'm not sure if this is gimmicky or are they as good as the company that makes the original.

The Kodak Pro SLR/c 14mp is a Canon mount camera based on a Sigma designed body. The Kodak Pro SLR/n is a Nikon mount body based on the Nikon N80. Though you are paying for pro quality here neither of these cameras are up to the pro line series 1 Canon and Nikon DSLRs.

thanks for the clarification. from what i have read just in magazines etc too you cant get better than the actual nikon or canon branded equipment. I personally don't think it would be the smartest investment unless the deal is really something special. But what do I know about investments I'm a college kid.

camera is new and the body is 2000 dollars.

When an offer seems to good to be true, it probably is. Based on the price alone I suspect a scam. I can't find this camera at a reputable merchant for less than $3,495.95 through any of the most highly-regarded (and reputable) dealers. To beat Amazon, Adorama and B&H by almost $1,500 suggests a scam of some sort. Can you tell us who the retailer is?

If this is on the level, go for it. That is a great deal on Kodak's best DSLR.

Again, I'm very skeptical that this deal is "on the level." Most likely you'll either never see the camera, or you'll be asked to purchase separately the accessories that should be in the box (and if you don't, told the camera is on backorder and you'll never see the camera).

The reviews I've seen on this camera are very critical of its performance at higher ISO (ISO 400 and higher). If you're looking for a camera you can handhold or use to shoot action in low light, then this isn't the camera for you. If you are, then please post back and I can offer some alternate suggestions.

well the deal is from amazon.

but yea, I am looking for a camera that will serve me well in studio as outside, something that is not as crapy as my sony mavica cd 500.I am basically building my portfolio from now on, so I don't want that to get compromised by the camera. So any suggestion is a valuable one.

Thanx

I see the deal you are talking about. First, understand the deal is not from Amazon. It's from an independent seller on Amazon. Also be aware that the seller is a "new seller" with no history on the site.

The good news is you are protected under Amazon's A-to-z guarantee, but ONLY if you follow specific guidelines.

Most important, use Amazon's payment system to make your payment. If you do this you are protected for the full purchase price, including shipping, up to $2,500. If you pay by any other method (check, money order, Western Union), you are unprotected. If the seller contacts you and asks to refund the credit card payment and have you Western Union the money, run -- don't walk. It's a scam.

Good luck,

Also, I would strongly suggest you take a good look at the Digital Rebel XT and/or the Canon 20D. The main drawback of these cameras relative to the Kodak is the physically smaller image sensor, but you will get more versatility out of the camera in terms of ISO range (these cameras produce good quality images to ISO 1600). For most practical purposes the capabilities pixel counts on these cameras will be plenty sufficient for your needs.

Or the Nikon D series, if you haven't already invested in Canon glass.

Scam. I can get a 1Ds Mark II on Amazon for $900. Or at least I can pay for one. I don't think you will get anything, and as to the prior post, no, Amazon only insures transactions made with their established sellers. If the dealers has no sales record and is selling some great new product at a fantastic rate you will lose money. Hate to bust the bubble.

...or if you desperately fancy a Kodak DCS PRO 14n you can get one secondhand at BH (provided it didn't burnt out) for a little less than two grands

Check out this site before you try to buy anything that sounds too good to be true... because it usually is:

//www.ripoffreport.com

if it does not show up here, try googling for e.g. "mymerchant.com" and "scam", and see what pops up.

I have seen numerous web sites, some off of yahoo, some off of amazon (I guess that those reputable sites cannot verify every link they get paid to return in search results). Beware that these stores are NOT amazon.com or yahoo.com but they just paid amazon and yahoo to be 'featured merchants'

Or, you can simply give them a call and see if they are friendly. If you are spending $2000, please take time to research the shop. It might as well save you a $2000... or some part thereof.

I have a first-hand experience with one of such sites. Visit royalcamera.com, and see what I'm talking about. Visit their section here:

//www.resellerratings.com/seller1895.html

I did not spend anything, as I contacted them only after reading about them, trying to get a good deal knowing that they are trying to scam people. They ended up being rude, but I had fun talking to them anyway.

I hope this helps. I thought that everyone should be aware of these companies and their practices.

You have a better chance finding a used deal on eBay than with these stores.

I heard that Kodak is going to stop making those hi-end cameras. Don't remember where but I was looking at them before I bought my Canon EOS 1D Mark ll.
