Mike and I are geting together next Saturday, March 12th to shoot the St Patrick's Day Parade in Pittsburgh. It starts at 10 AM, but you gotta be early to park and pick a good spot to shoot from.
It is the second largest St Patrick's Day Parade in the US (Boston in #1). The first in Pgh was in 1869.
The 2005 Route
Pictures of the 2004 parade, not mine though.
Photos from '96 parade, not mine either.
is mine from last year.
Sign up now!
All we need is a meeting point!

What time are you all planning to meet up?
I'd love to go, but Pittsburgh is a 4-hour drive for me.

9 ish... the parade starts at 10, and the weatehr can be anything, but figure on cold and windy. staying on the sunny side of the street is MOST helpful, heat wise, assuming there is sun.
There is a bagel place on grant st, across from the USX tower. Brueggers i t is, at 531 Grant. (the web is cool!) It is warm there and near the start of the parade.
parking...I am trying to trade days at work so i can be off on Saturday and stay as long as needed otherwise with town cut in half by the parade parking and leaving becomes an issue (for me anyway).
If i get the day off, I'll bring some beer money.

hrmm...I think I'd do the parade, but I don't know if I feel like braving all the traffic that's going to be down there. Is there anywhere we could meet somewhere then say ride a trolley into town (don't mind me, I don't go into town too often).
If all goes well...I should have my mini trekker AW by then *drool*

Hmmm. park n ride. Interesting idea. I have driven in before, no probs. We can meet and I can be your trolley.
I used my backpack as a backpack for the first time today...my stick on velcro is unsticking (not too surprising there) so i have some stitching to do...but otherwise a backpack rocks! I even attached my tripod to it today.

New SUV, hundreds of drunks, beer bottles, downtown w/ parade going on = not a shot in hell I'm parking anywhere near downtown. I'm going to park and ride to. What are the rates for Fate's Jitney Service and where is the pick up point? |

Hey guys, been really busy, but I think that this would be fun on Sat.
We can take the 71A bus downtown, it'll be packed as hell, but that's half the fun! |

They're in my Pittsburgh Gallery //www.brianthechemist.com/photos/album01
I'd post some photos, but they're kinda OT in this thread.
See you saturday

does anyone here have a canon 17-40L? (or some other 17mm lens that's not the "kit" or an other EF-S, as I have a 10D) I'm kinda in the market for one and I'd like to try someone's out before I buy.
Deepee was that you that had the 28-135IS? I'd love to try that sucker out too. I'll be bringing my 28 f/2.8, 50 f/1.8 and my 70-200IS, some warm-ass clothes and my need for beer! |

brian, if you're coming in from 28, exit on east ohio street. take that to cedar ave, and turn left. it's on the left side behind the sunoco gas station just before you go under the train tracks and across the 9th street bridge into downtown. if you want to meet there, that's cool. otherwise i'll meet everyone downtown.
to all,
have we nailed down a place yet?!
i've never been to the parade before, so i don't know prime locations.

I'll probably park near gateway center (stanwix garage?) and head up liberty and slowly cut across town to grant near USX tower.
Been a while since i hungout downtown, and things keep changing. My vote is for inside, warm and with coffee. Hence hte Brueggers on grant (behind the William penn hotel). it will be crowded there though.

I don't know how I'm getting there, but I defiantely plan on being there. I definately am NOT parking downtown...I'm definately NOT leaving my Jeep (with a soft top) in a Giant Eagle in North Side...and I don't know if I feel like riding a foot away from someone with the flu.
Maybe I can talk my girlfriend into going and we can bring her car.
