The funniest bits of UK comedy I have seen in years are the part in sean of the dead where they are throwing records at the zombies and he picks up the stone roses album and says- don;t break it... second coming... I liked it. too funny,
or in the office with the bluto mr. toad part; or the outtakes where gervais is telling tim... play your cards right and you could be "here." and keeps pointing at his chair. very funny.
and ali g, the don't do drugs interview where he rattles off fourthousand names for marijuana and then asks the guy what else it is called. I wet myself. |

I've managed to see some episodes of The Office while back in Australia - though not enough.
Another more recent Brit comedy I liked was People Like Us.
Funniest (bit) character ever? The Spanish interpreter in Blackadder 1. |

What about Black Books? That would have to be one of the best comedies ever!

I̢۪m going to throw the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons
I can't stand the Office, it make me cringe from the very second the program starts and after about two or three minutes, I found myself wishing that Countdown was on at this time of the evening, as it considerably funnier, and more stimulating.....
What even worse is that for the last two years I have received the office DVD's as Birthday presents........
I'll have a consonant please Carolâ€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦. and another one.

Dawn: "He proposed on a Valentine’s day, although he didn’t do it face to face, he did it in one of the little Valentine message bits in the paper. I think he had to pay for it by the word, because it just said ‘Lee love Dawn, marriage?’ which, you know I like, because it’s not often you get something that’s both romantic and thrifty."
Oh, and Black Books was a great show too!
*%^$ It I'm moving to England. |

Going back to the roots of office comedy, "Office Space" still has to be the pioneer. If you haven't seen it: please do. It's a cult classic.

So now that the Yankee Knock-Office has aired, what do all of you aficionados think of it?
Seemed funny to me, but honestly I have not seen the original...and I was tired when I watched this one, and a little distracted since I had the sound off...plus I was in the other room, but for the most part, I thought it was genius!

Sadly, funny stuff rarely lasts. However, 'Joey' is probably going to be running for 15 years, and gems like Freaks & Geeks, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and numerous others, die a quick unsung death because they are over the head of the general populace or not quite marketable enough.
What a shame...
Maybe I should stop watching tv and start reading more...nah.

I watched the first 5 minutes of the U.S. pilot before I turned off the TV and threw up. I'm sure the new version will have its funny moments, but the original had a lot of mannerisms, that made it unique, and somehow that part of the show was missed.
You know what it is? Steve Carrell is playing Steve Carrell...again. Every time you see him on TV he will be playing Steve Carrell. That is just how American actors are. They have one character and they get cast when someone wants their character. The original Office had good acting and those actors really captivated me in a way that made that show stand out as special. |
