Caught an epic day of powder in the upper NW yesterday. On the slopes I ran into a magazine shoot in progress. They were shooting a guy droping into the Canyon at Mt Baker off about a 20 foot ledge. The photographer was shooting film at the time and wasn't real talkative so I didn't get much background info from him.
I'm wondering if there are any DCPers out there taking snowboard or ski pics? Show'em if ya gotta'em
Also is there anyone out there doing extreme sports work for magazines?(skating, snowboarding, skiing, pretty much anything outside of mainstream sports)

hey, I take a bunch during snowboarding / skiing competitions (stunts/jumps/rails/etc.) at Calabogie Peaks, Ontario. I have over 40 posted on my site at //www.simonphotography.net I have also taken a recent batch of photos with professional skiers/snowboarders at my hill, which are not on the site right now, but will be on soon, (in a matter of weeks), and this Sunday, the last competition of the season, should bring good results. Please Visit my site and tell me what you think. Either leave comments in the guestbook or PM me here.
Thanks

well, i haven't taken any.. maybe next weekend! but, here's one that a friend of mine took of another friend of ours.. he says that he snapped it when the guy was mid-air, but with the shutter lag this is what he captured (after the "landing")
haha! maybe i just think it's funny since i know the guy :P

for the best sequence shots of snowboarding/skiing you need at least 5-6 and preferably 8 fps, the images are compliled in photoshop. |

To do the sequences I shoot with high quality jpeg to keep the frame rate up. Then put them together in photoshop. Take usually the last shot first, use that as a background, set levels on all the images so their histograms follow a similar curve and drop the remaining images on top of that. I'll typically set opacity so I can see my background image underneath, then cut out the area that overlaps. |

I don't know if I will be frowned upon or not, but I use Paint to copy and paste the different frames into one, used as a background, as erchmitt says. I will be adding new ones soon,
Enjoy!

It would be better if the trick was more inticing, or challenging. A little too dark too. Try to shoot with the sun. Good shot anyway,
