I have been wanting to post the outtakes for this cemetery challenge all week. I was surprised at the low showing for my shot, but having read some of the comments, I can understand ... sort of.
I did not setout to offend anyone with this shot, it was just a crazy bit of fun with my 17 year old daughter. By the way... the shots were so creepy they ended up keeping my model up half the night :)

As I said during voting - I LOVED it!!!
You both did a fantastic job and I thought the photo would do WAY better.
I'll never learn to anticipate the voters around here.
Thanks for posting your outtakes - they are superb, too! |

I actually like the fourth one the least!!!
Because of the open expanse of the fields beyond the graves.
If there had been a wall or fence or something.....
But the rest are great.
Well done. |

i would have entered the 4th shot, with maybe a bit of work to the sky.
i think that one has the best mood.
if i were a ghost - i think the last place i would hang out is right next to my grave stone...

I, on the other hand, really liked to have her touching that headstone.
This way, she had an identity, I wasn't just looking at any ghost. |

however - the ghost like mood is fully there without the ID...

I like them -- the mood they set is great -- but the lighting just doesn't match the mood of the image. I would suggest, as others have already done, shooting at a different time of day. Midnight would not be needed, but dusk would work well -- the main goal would be to get rid of the harsh shadow on the tombstone.
Again, nice shots.

I agree with the others who said that these pictures would have had a more consistent mood if the lighting were lower. However, I don't think that that shooting at night would have been necessary. If you're using a dSLR a similar effect can be achieved by intentionally underexposing the photo. When the scene is lit like your challenge entry you'll still get crisp shadows which seem of out of place (although most people won't be able to identify why the shot looks odd), but if you play your photons right such things can work in your favor. |
