Yes, you did indeed! Good luck, hope you are successful!

By the way, you did comment on mine already. I see why you thought I might have done some dodging, but I didn't. I appreciate you pointing that out to me though, it is something I will be aware of and try to avoid the appearance of in future challenges - thanks.

Dodging and burning is not allowed in this challenge...although I've seen lots and lots of it!

I don't understand. You are assuming "lots and lots" of people cheated?? If you believe someone used Dodge and Burn, request validation. Some photos have been validated, maybe for this very reason. Rather than call people cheaters and give them low scores, either give them the benefit of the doubt or request validation.

Had I not played around with the Photoshop CS demo (before it timed out), I would have thought so too.
The Shadow/Highlight tool can make an image look that way.

Yeah, there are million ways to get around the basic rules. For my picture I used shadow/highlight, curves (with tons of control points), a special unsharp mask trick to increase contrast (small amount, ~50 in radius), selective color (to increase the blue color of the sky) and so on. This does take more time than if one can use burn/dodge (or it's more advanced equivalant: curves/levels with a mask) but I think I can achieve almost the same results within the basic rules.

Don't stress yourself too much. People will understand if you don't get to all of them. Your goal of providing that much help to your fellow photogs is still admirable, and you should be commended for the effort. Thanks.

I usually do all my voting then I go back for comment. I think it's easier that way.
04/15/2005 02:19:26 PM · #232
Starting my slow decent, down to a 6.06 avg. Although I have recieved 10 very useful and pleasant comments.

Don't feel too bad . . . I haven't received one from you yet either. LOL

Hey, there were 497 of them when I was voting yesterday. Looks like I have three less to worry about (my luck though, I probably already voted those three).

Good luck notonline. Race you to the finish.

If I race you to the finish I might screw up so I'd rather NOT finish voting then have to go back thru them to vote/comment a second time. I just worked 37hrs straight so I'm not voting until I find my senses have return to comment clearly. lol maybe I just need a beer. Good luck ReallyColorBlind and I am stil waiting for you comment. I now have 7. PM me your entry and I will judge it fairly but I cannot promise you will like my comment. lol j/k NO CHEATING

edit: typo due to exhaustion and lack of sleep.

Here are a couple of images, I'm wondering how they would be voted on. Please ignore the flash reflection, and comment on content. Thanks in advance

Probably 5 for both - at least not more than that from me. The second picture could have been nice had you included some foreground and preferably shot it with a wider lens. High contrast B&W would perhaps have suited it well?

The first day or two I thought I was going to have my highest rated photograph, but it's been dropping (around 5.64 now). Oh well, we'll see what happens next week.

Applying something to a selected area is verboten. I used selective color which is applied to the entire image.

Anyway, my photograph has already been validated ...

boy, I cant wait till this challenge is over to find out what went wrong... I have a dozen comments all very positive and yet a score of only 5.2. I can usually predict what the score will be by how many comments I get and the nature of them. Not this time.

I think something about my pic must be turning a lot of voters off.

Anybody else see the same thing?

I have never had so many comments: 22 so far, and there are still 4 days left in the challenge! I am pleased with my score, too, but it's nowhere near being a ribbon contender at 5.9123 (still a chance to meet my goal for every entry - breaking 6.0 - on the other hand, there is plenty of time left for it to head south too).

The library door would have scored well with me because it has a lot of meaning, the other one not, looks like a lot of ugly clutter.

I'm right there with you notonline. What a daunting task. I'll keep pluggin along until the last minute. Good luck to you, and thanks to all those that have commented. I think I read that someone had 22 comments. That's great. Me personally, I have only been given 3 comments.

I would be interested to know the correlation between good scores and number of comments. For instance, my photo is only rated at a 4.9 right now and I have 3 comments. How do your comments vs. score look?

What bothers me is, all of the black and white pics...was it not supposed be color and texture?

I have to agree with you about the B&W photos, but it is up to the individual as to what media to use. There's also a lot of doors and window shots. I now realize why this voting is taking me so long. I don't want to comment on doors and windows, I want to focus on those that took photos of a building. I wish there was a button during the voting stage that would allow you to skip over a photo, and then come back to it later. I think I'd be doing a lot better on my commenting attempts.

Was hoping to stay above 6 but I can't complain, it's nothing spectacular but I like it.

This challenge has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. Current score is 6.1 with 30 comments. My shot has been as low as 5.7 and as high as 6.3 .... interesting results so far

If you look to the left and the right of the number scale at the top, you will see little arrows. This will move you to the next unvoted image.
