I don't know if you know this, this was news to me... I found this forum thread explaining how to focus in a pitch black sorroundings with the use of an ordinary laser pointer.

Very interesting...

I carry a flashlight with me but most of the time I end up just going MF.

I used to carry a torch when I had a similar Fuji. Mike - manual focus may be an option on those cameras, but if you've ever actually tried to use it on them you'd understand the dilemma.

The S5000z has a very effective AF illuminator, you shouldn't need a flashlight! Interesting idea with the laser pointer though, distance may be no object when using one of those

yup, I use my led light sometimes too :-)

Sony f717 has a built in thingamajig that puts out a laser pattern to help it focus.

Yes, the F828 has it too.

Doing my first wedding, I spoke to the Minister before the event. He didn't want me to even use the flash in the church, so I switched of the SLR-sound and everything. I guess there was enough light at the start of the ceremony, but by the time of the blessing, my camera faithfully pattern illuminated the bride, groom and Minister as it does. The guy stopped mid-sentance, him ,the bride and groom mentally calculated the origin of this, this evil glow, and slowly turned to the picture maker..Made a nice shot though:-)
