Here are some night outtakes a few days late taken with my new Canon 20D and 70-200mm IS (now mind you i am still getting used to all this new SLR equipment.)
But wOw.....
These two photos were taken mere seconds apart (yes, there's some focus issues - but that's my fault). This is the difference between ISO 100 & 3200 on the Canon 20D. It's like night and day - literally!
Just unbelievable...

Possibly dumb question, but were you using a tripod on all these?
They're very nice, and that is the camera I lust after...

No all were taking as i was walking around - handheld.
I got one shot that is just amazing. It's very noisy but detailed and sharp. It's of the power plant across the harbor. I am going to try to take a mounted shot and a wide view to show the distance.
But this lens and Canon's ISO is just...mind-blowing. |

It would be real helpful to viewers if you filled in the exposure data (aperture, ISO, and shutter speed) when you upload photos that you want us to look at and comment on. And now that we have the lens database it's real easy to include lens info too.

The ISO change is very impressive. I'm stuck with 50-400, but much over 200 is too noisy. I'll have to dream on for a bit longer,though...

Yeah the only way you can really tell is because of the lights on the water.

"same shutter speed, right? Where's the noise?!"
It may not be the same shutter speed, but both were very quick shots.

[[[I'll see what I can do, but it was after 2am when i posted. They were both taken with a Canon f/2.8 IS lens]]] |

THe unbelievable part isn't the difference of light, but the lack of noise. If for no other reason, it's why I want to punt my 10D off a bridge and order me up a 20D. |

I really want to see what the lens does in "good" light on a stable support (as opposed to hand-held) |

That might help, but after buying it, and a 220V generator for remote location shoots, and portable A/C unit to keep the subjects cool while under the light, I think I would be money ahead buying a D2X or MkII.
Now to find a solution to my low light life problems.. |
