An abandoned building in the woods. These boxes might have been some sort of fish traps. I was standing on a rotten one and a thin piece of metal cabinet edge so there is camera shake. |

It looks like the bright backgrounds have fooled your camera's light meter. Exposure compensation would be helpful in these situations or shoot in full manual mode but set your exposure so the indicator is to the right of center. Since every situation is different you'll probably have to bracket your shots.
Now back to our previously scheduled random photos.

How about putting some info on the picture... iso, shutter speed, lens, aperture, focal length?
Awesome picture... love the selective desat, and I like how the flower gradually desats on the stem, nice touch. |

Yup, I'm pretty lucky living here in NW Washington State. We have some great landscapes around also. I live on a little peninsula in the town of Anacortes that acts as a wildlife trap. We see quite a few birds and get beautiful sunsets over the islands. But you don't live in a bad area either David, Utah is gorgeous.
The Tamron 200-500 is pretty soft but I can't complain for the price. I use it quite a bit.
