Hi All, I am heading to Savannah and wanted to see if there are sites I just have to see while I am there, everyone here seems very well traveled and seem to have good suggestions for many places in the states. |

It really depends alot on what you like. The forts (Pulaski's my favorite) are very interesting. The restored houses in town are beautiful. A warning though -most do not allow photography.
I'm drawing a blank on the name of the historical museum - it's a converted train station - it is worth stopping by if you are interested in putting things in historical perspective. The town tours originate from there as well, so you probably will cross paths with it anyway.
The Catholic cathedral is nice, as are the parks around it.

The one place I think of when I think of Savannah is Bonaventure Cemetery...it is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been...I'm not being morbid here...it is truly beautiful...like a park full of wonderful scuplture...and that spanish moss...I gotta get back down there! : } |

I would agree on the cemetary - when sherman's troops occupied the city, the actually camped out for months there. If you look at some of the tombstones, you will find that the troops screwed with the born / died dates. Some show people 200+ years old, while others died before they were born!
Ogelthorpe Square is beautiful in the Spring. Don't know about Summer. |

If you're going to Savannah, you might enjoy reading "Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil" beforehand (If you haven't already).
Touring the locations mentioned in the book would be a fun thing to do.
There is a restaurant towards the East end of the riverwalk that was an old armory with huge, thick brick walls inside. Wish I could remember the name, because it was Amazing.
Have a great time, and take lots of pictures. |

Each of the squares in town have their own character. It can take a full day and more just to see them all. Many nice fountains.
Buildings associated with the Savannah College of Art and Design SCAD are interesting. Including an old movie house with 1000 light bulbs at the entry. There is a tea house associated with the school (student run, I think).
You might take a ferry from the river walk area to the tourist spot on the other side of the river--not for the tourist spot, but for the view of the old city.
There's a market area. Wished I hadn't missed it when I was there.
Bring your best walking shoes and enjoy!
