I remember hearing about a device that amounts to a portable hard-drive with a small LCD that lets you empty your storage card and view your photos. It seems like that would be a handy device to have on vacation or for general use. On google I only find this EPSON unit , and the "Epson Store" is out of stock. Does anyone know if they are out of production? Anyone tried one of these, either Epson or some other type? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Joe. Clicking your link, the Kodak Easyshare has 32 mb of storage, though, not as much hard drive as I'm searching for. Thanks for taking the trouble to respond. |

Flash Trax is one unit. There are many. You can get them in like 20/40/60/80 + gig sizes. The Flash Trax unit has a lift up screen on it for viewing. Larger than the camera LCD and saves on camera battery.
Just one page, look around, there are many and can get it cheaper than here for sure.
I have seen the 20 gig size for like 249.00

I have a flash trax and love it. I can download one card while shooting with the other. I can hook it up to a TV if I don't have my laptop and view them that way. You can use it hooked to a TV as a slide show for family and friends if you like. The LCD is bigger than my camera's. It also can zoom and show RAW files.

Thanks dahkota and Alienyst, Flash Trax is what I'm looking for then. Wish I had thought of that for Father's Day. Appreciate the help. |

Ah, here's why I couldn't find what I was looking for on my own. Epinions has this one listed as an MP-3 player, but when you click on View Product Info, it describes it as a photo viewer. Thanks again.

I just picked up the July "Digital Camera" magazine. There are reviews of five "Portable Media Drives". The website is //www.digicamera.com/, but July articles are not posted yet.
The Drives are:
FlashTrax
Epson P-2000
Nikon Coolwalker
Transcend Album
Wolverine SixPak
I've heard that IPOD photo can do this also.
There are some devices that can write to CDs and DVDs.
See //www.steves-digicams.com/digi_accessories.html#storage for a bigger list of devices |

I have the Nikon Coolwalker and it works great. I looked into a couple and I think for the most part they have alot of the same features. Some of the things I like about this is the built-in CF reader, the ability to re-name your folders, and the LCD screen (which is bigger than the one on my 300D) is nice too.
I know also that, if you dont care about an LCD screen in the storage device, you can get ones that are super cheap but I don't know the names of any of these off the top of my head.

Thanks hankk for the head's up about the mag... I'll pick up a copy. I am only in the "planning to" stage as far as shooting both RAW and jpeg, and even so I still find it difficult to wade through the tons of photos I get when I have filled up my two 1-gig cards. It will be nice to have a way to unload them for later review. FYI (anyone), there's also a discussion of these at this link. |

I bought one of the devices that burns CDs from your CF cards--it doesn't have an LCD for review, but when I'm out shooting, I'm going to spend my time shooting, not editing. I'm happy with the device, but wish I'd spent the extra money on a box that writes DVDs, not CDs. |

I'm hoping to buy a Palm LifeDrive in the very near future, the photobank/viewer functionality is very useful :)
