Perhaps the term OBSOLETE is better applied to CREATIVE thinking, taking on of a good CHALLENGE, making or receiving COMMENTS "good and bad" and ACCEPTANCE of a vote "fair/unfair". |

Although in this era of re-use and recycling, you'll find many uses for finished toilet-paper rolls ... ask any pre-school. |

2 of my comments:
"Loved the title"
"Hated the title"
And one person didn't even read the title otherwise would not have left the comment they did. *sigh* |

I have to agree the entries are boringm, most of them lack any creative input and i dont think I'll be voting very high with this challenge . |

It can't be obsolete if it was never present in the first place. ;o)

Unfortunately, I know my entry is a bit boring and uninspired. I really had second thoughts about entering it at all.
Perhaps in the future, I'll listen to myself ;-) I had a really hard time finding a subject I liked for the challenge and finally "settled" on something. I should have gone with my gut and not entered it.

I was happy with my challenge entry on 'Obsolete' and expect it to be my highest scoring entry so far. Although I will say that I have another version that is actually far better than my entry version, but since I did some spot editing on it, it could not be used in the challenge. I was unimpressed overall with most of the entries, but there were several that had merit. And since the competition is lacking, this hopefully gives a rookie like me more of a chance to score high! :) |

I totally agree! Less voting, more comments! And a positive side effect is that people won't get bored with particular subjects that much anymore. |

I will have to wait till after the challenge I think. Or else it would give away my entry. |

I scored several 8's, a couple of 9's and one 10! Overall, my feelings were that many of the images were not of obsolete items, but of old things. There is a difference. I did not let that affect my scoring, because it could be so hard to call, for sure, but it was an observation of mine....along with all the metal everyone else experienced. There were some very nice shots in this challenge! Good luck all.

I am new here, and this is my first challenge. The view I have taken is this, I vote on as many as I can, and when I comment on a photo, I start by mentioning the positive. I am extremely dissappointed in the fact that out of 180 votes, I have recieved only 2 comments. I think the rabble going on in this thread and others like it is the reason. Nobody wants to comment for fear of being molested. IMO

With "Obsolete" right on the tail of "Metal", I have learned some about photography but a hell of a lot about rust. |

I finally got to voting about 23% of the entries last night and will try to do more this weekend, but I have to agree that this was a bit of a dismal collection - regardless of the challenge relevance.
I just scanned through these posts and I must say (AGAIN) that bashing someone because they choose to remain hidden during voting irritates me. There have been many threads, arguments, debates, riots, etc. Some don't like it, some do, it's an optional feature, you can find out that I was the _____ that left the comment when the challenge ends. ;-)
Also - it is very possible that I posted "Love the title" - what is it about that comment that you don't like??? It tells you that the title was uniquely special in your presentation. I don't think I ever used the word "hate" in my comments, but no matter what my comments are, it does not necessarily give any indication of the score unless I specifically indicate that it did - like "An extra point for the title" - that could mean you went from a 4 to a 5 or a 8 to a 9. I NEVER leave the score in the comments because people will undoubtedly PM me or rant in the forums "How could you say that, and give me a 4??[/i]"
If I have to talk about this again, I'll be strolling over to the Rant forum with some bleeped expletives and satirical imagery. ;-) Back to my happy place...

Perhaps the dead person was being used to weigh something down, but it is no longer needed?
Due to renovations, Jimmy Hoffa is no longer needed to reinforce the concrete in the stadium?

Personally, I LOVED the "Love the title" - and of course, did not like "Hate the title". Just to be clear. And also to illustrate that 2 different people could feel exactly opposite about the same thing. That's all I was saying. I find it interesting.

I see. I didn't realize both those comments were made on the same entry. That is a little unusual for the title, but not for a photo. Although if your title contains a hot-button type message, you will get the love-hate comments. Thanks for clarification.

OK folks, after reading this thread, I went back and commented on many more pictures. Hope the recipients don't mind. I tried to think of ways to improve the photo. Personally, I try to vote on the picture based on how I like it both technically and emotionally and less on the does it fit the challenge. One exception... no matter what, I hate bugs!!!

Ouch. That's a little spiteful, isn't it?!
Close minded no, phobic yes... Thanks for adding to the trauma. Didn't know expressing my opinion would lead to such 'venom.'
