Thank you both stdavidson and Roland for the vote and word of confidence! I appreciate it!! That picture (darkness) was my daughter Breea! She is a beautiful and cheerful child in nature! If you want to see good pics of her go to lesleynelson profile (my sisters) and you will see her really!!

Did not see that one but your entry, "Insanity...", I commented on in the darkness challenge still gives me nightmares! You did a great job with that one.

Steve - your work is superb and that's a nice offer to be a sounding board for some of us who aren't as accomplished. I sometimes thing that the more expensive camera and mastery of software is the thing that takes you to the next level.

This group has certainly taught me to view photographs with a much keener eye. I see shots now and think "maybe a tad more saturation, or less exposure," which I never even noticed before. This arena is a learning experience and I hope people who receive constructive comments (even from my novice eye) will take it as "help" and not a slam.

Do any of you tend to compare photos and then vote accordingingly? I find it hard not to. Judy

I meant "think".

Also "you," meaning anyone, not you specifically. I guess I should proofread my posts. LOL

Judy-

Your an asset to dpchallenge . When I go to leave a comment on a photo, you have already been there. You are supportive and you don't just say "good pic" you say why it's good, what moves you about it and I'm sure you are discovering that you learn yourself by critiquing others photos. I'm fairly new to this site and I feel like I am learning fast and improving because of comments I have recieved.

Keep it up. I appreciate your input.

Kelly

Thanks, Kelli. Sometimes I run out of things to say but I guess you can't read everything I post to all the people. There are so many superlatives I can use, without it sounding trite. LOL When I see something that I don't like, I usually don't say anything, but I've read that people complain of getting a low score, but why? So I've begun putting in a little negative stuff and I hope I don't tick people off. Oh well....

I cannot wait for the macro V. I finally got one that I think should get me up to maybe a 7!! WOO HOO. Still working on Circle. Judy

Roland, you hit the nail on the head I think. Very often we see in a picture we've taken what we want to see ... or maybe what our mind's eye saw when the shutter clicked. Our mind focuses on what we want to see and, voila, there it is in all it's splender in our photo.

Now along comes a stranger, who looks at the photo and thinks, "Hmm, nice snap I guess," and moves on.

The trick of photography is to capture something you see, and thrust it inexorably at a disinterested stranger who stops by to look. To shake thier mind's eye by the scruff of the neck and say "Look damn it, this is worth looking at!" I guess I mixed my metaphores there but do you see what I am saying?

So don't be discouraged if someone doesn't see the splender you see in your photo, just resolve next time to make your photo so compelling the stranger will stop and look for awhile for what your mind's eye might have seen.
