Alright, if its not a tree, a reptile, or a flower thats an extra point for creativity. Wow it seems I have managed to see the same thing 20 times over, and I have only been through 35%.

I also thought mine would do better, as it started out in the wee hours of this morning at 6.4+. Now it is:

I know it's still early, but I hope it starts to climb soon instead of continuing to fall!

Sooooooo glad I pulled my entry last night. I would have gone nuts going through that many entries trying to figure out which ones are better than mine! :) |

Ugh! I've gotten through voting the first 320 - I might need therapy after this one! Comments will follow after sorting.

I'm somewhat perplexed, I've been voting on this challenge and see a lot of pretty pictures. Many of them seem flat though. By that I mean they really don't show me a 3d look of texture by using light and shadows to create texture. I think I need to take a break, and decide how to proceed on voting. Do I just vote pretty or keep looking for the use of light and shadows to show texture. |

Keep looking for ones that, in your opinion, really go the extra mile in attempting to reveal a sense of texture, and give them the boost they need in this immense challenge where excellent images are sure to get lost and finish in the middle of the pack.

It is not just shadows formed by light that produce three dimensional effects. If the light allows enough detail to expose the sculpturing of the surface and does not just wash away all detail that too will allow one to have a good sense as to the texture of the object. |

Since that fits in where my image seems to be...I'd have to agree with you whole heartedly

I'm not particulary thrilled with the entries in this challenge. I'll probably not vote on more than the minimum.
I've been looking for textures first and foremost. It's hard to make some great textured items look interesting so I'm not focusing primarily on that. If I'm really, really feeling the texture and the color through the image, that is paramount.

That almost exactly matches my score at this time. And I believe my entry is not only 100% on topic, it's arguably one of the best images I have entered in a challenge. I'm mildly disappointed, although I can't really get worked up about scoring quirks anymore.

I'm gettin' creamed' I'm about to challenge someone to get lower score. Geeeeeze, its not that bad an image.
Who ever wins this contest will sure earn it though, out of over 600 entries.

Well, my entry has dropped by 0.3 in the past 4-5 hours. Sitting right at 5.0000 at the moment. I was hoping for mid 5's at least. Anyway.....

Wouldn't something smooth also be considered a texture, but not have a rough or 3d quality? Lighting could still render it "flat", but that's another issue.

I'm having a hard time visualizing this. I would still think there would have to be some shadowing to show the sculpturing of the surface. Although, I suppose, coloring could play that role.

ok everyone go back and give every one a 10. We can then all enjoy ourselves as 600+ people receive the blue ribbon for first place... What does DPC do in the unlikely event of a tie for a ribbon?

I predicted lots of zig-zagging and so it goes.
Steve from New York-I feel your pain even at 5.39...I think I have a nice shot comparatively but out of the three comments I have one was helpful in understanding the way folks are thinking.
Laurie-I think the points that were shaved from your score were given to me. Thanx, I appreciate it.

It's been all over the place - starting at 5 (first vote) to a hover around 6.4, a hover around 6.8, and staying around 6.7 right now. Whatever happens, I'm sure that I'll be pleased as it's certainly heading towards a personal best (by far) for me! Laurie, our stats look pretty similar.. same comments, virtually same # of votes and score. I better figure out which one is yours and vote it down.. ;) jk, of course. Congrats on the good score so far.

Yikes! :(
Okay, I wasn't expecting to be one of my "biggest raters" but I was expecting something closer to a 4.+
But I'm getting my worst score of all time.... :(
(Oh well, I was trying to capture something and obviously I didn't convey it....)
