I am so glad that she is oksy. She needs to go to the ER at least within 24 hours of the accident. Then she needs to see her primary care provider within the week following the accident. You may think she is fine, but accident injuries will definitely creep up on you if you are not careful. Also, not just thinking about money, but if she doesn't get herself checked out then there is no documentation. Documentation is important; if it isn't written down, then it is as if it never happened. Make her go today. A few hours waiting in the ER is worth it in the long run. Also, she shouldn't be billed. If she has his info, she should be able to give it to the ER. Tell her to seek medical attention, and get some rest.

Glad to hear she is okay. There is no excuse for this guy; I hope they throw the book at him. I'm sure that his insurance company will offer up more money to her to settle any pain and suffering. I'm no lawyer however, but I was involved in a motorcycle accident a few years back and the lady's insurance company who hit me gave me an additional 2k just so I wouldn't sue.

Good luck, and again, glad she is okay.

I called and told my daughter one more time to go get a medical check up. I work in the hospital as a CT tech, so I am completely aware of hidden injuries and told her to listen to me for a change. She said she would - we'll see.

Thanks for caring everyone!

he he...too bad she doesn't live closer. As a CT tech you could have films ready for your lawyers by morning :)

My baby sister of 21, along with her best friend, were killed three years ago by a drunk driver outside of Dallas, Texas. They were coming home from an Oklahoma State Trooper Graduation. Irony. He killed two and is going to spend 7 years total, but the shame will follow him, and the ability to work at a good job are probably all but gone. How many Germans and Europeans are killed annually by alcohol related accidents with motor vehicles? Smug, pray to God that she is kept safe at all times, and remember evertime she leaves the house or hangs up the phone, make sure she is happy. My sister and I had fought the weekend before she passed, and I do regret starting that spat. We can go at anytime. The cool thing is that I will see her again one day, but not today. Faith is my weapon now against the deep depression I came out of a little bit over a year ago. Drinking heavily every night, pushing away my boys, and not being the one I use to be. I am still not back to myself 100%, due to medications, but I will be myself again, and soon. Years ago I had a film camera, and I took so many pictures of things around me, except my family. Since I acquired my Rebel 300D back in February, I have taken nearly 25,000 photos. Probably around 2500 alone of my boys and other children in our family. This way if something does happen, we still have that slice of time that we can say was ours. Death comes and goes to every living creature that cohabits with us on this planet. We are not bulletproof, we are more fragile than the oak tree in the field by itself, or the giant redwoods in California; we are not indestructable. So, to those of you who were unkind, or spiteful, humble yourselves and say I am sorry and I love you. Don't regret something that you had complete control over. Peace out!

Avoiding Drunks is a bit of a way of life here, unfortunately. I live in San Juan County of New Mexico, the HIGHEST DWI rated county in the US at one time (may still be but havent' checked in a few years) I know so many people that have been affected, some lost both parents on Christmas eve, many I graduated with are no longer here because they were killed by or they were the drunk.
I moved to Denver metro area for school (from an area population of about 140,000 to an area pop of over 2 million) and my car insurance went up by $1.00 every 6 months....tells you a little about the risk factor here!!

The ABQ news (city about 3 hours away) constantly has reports of people throughout the state being booked for thier 15th or 20th+ conviction...no license, still driving (Why aren't they locked up???) State Reps or sentors or Judges are also getting DWI's from time to time...no wonder the laws aren't stiffer, the lawmakers are big offenders too!! They are starting to make 2nd offense people get interlock devices on their car ignitions (breathilizers attached to the car) and have toyed withthe idea of taking cars away. I like the interlock device but whose to say the drunk just doesn't use a different car.....

It's crazy, I hope/wish the situation gets better. I have a friend who is a local city cop and he says the risk is about 1 in 5 drivers out there at any given time are drunk or have been drinking.....

I drive a big car......maybe when they hit me (probably only a matter of time) I'll survive.

Why is it that most car accidents are caused by drunk drivers and yet most victims are those innocent, those who are not actually drunk. Poor souls.

I have a parent who is a doctor....one of the reasons the non-drinkers/innocent get hurt worse than the drunk is that they see whats coming and stiffen and brace for impact while the drunks are clueless and just limply slide around the car like jello (for lack of a better word). I'm sure there are many other factors as well but this is a part of the injury ratio.

Kristen just called - she did go to the emergency room and get checked out. She said as soonas she mentioned she was in a car accident last night they threw a cervical collar on her - she said it was a real pain. I told her better to have to wear a collar for an hour than to be crippled for life. She had her neck, back, pelvis, and skull xrayed. Everything turned out fine. Just some minor cuts and bruising today.
Now I can breath a sigh of relief knowing that she truly is okay.

ph223048: I am so sorry to hear you had to go through the devastation of losing your sister. Glad to hear you are working your way through it and putting your life back in order. Unfortunately it will never be the same.
