Unfortunately they don't have to for you to be breaking copyright, which is implicit..

I'm not complaining, but I'd be very careful..

I don't think it's a good idea for you to post other photographer's work on your website without permission from the photographer and without giving credit to the photographer directly on the site. Please remove my image from your site, along with the link to the print.

Announcing the DPCPrints Referral Program

How to Get Started...

There's really no limit to how many different ways you can refer sales, but here's some quick ideas. I'd love for people to add their own ideas to this list!

- Link directly to your favorite images. These can be your own or someone else's.
- Create business cards using your referral URL. Not only does it look very professional, but it makes you more money!
- Create fliers to put around town -- coffee shops, frame stores, on campus, at work, ...
- Tell other communities you belong to about your site. Forums are a great place to start.
- If you're feeling really ambitious, you could even try running any kind of online or traditional advertisting campaign using your URL.
- Get creative. Any traffic you bring to your site is a potential sale. Make money while you're sleeping and all that good stuff :)

Its actually recommended to link to others works. If anyone whose photograph I have on there would not like links to their work please let me know. I have already made some changes. I adde the title and photographer, and bolded a part to hopefully make it more clear that these are not my images. Thanks.

I don't know if you ever got an answer to this but you can just take the url of your gallery and replace the www with bod. For example, the referral link to your sports shots would be //bod.dpcprints.com/profile.php?USER_ID=4411&GALLERY_ID=9

JDW, I'm not sure I really understand the point to your site. How is it going to be any different than dpc, except that you pick only certain pictures (and without permission or giving credit)?

Go look at the site again. I put the titles and the photographers name next to their work. It is a place I can put thumbnails up to my work and work that I like for referals. I've emailed everyone that I could get email addresses for from this site saying that if they would not like referals to their work to let me know (sense jmsetzler emailed me). It also states eariler in this thread that this is a good way for referals, and to use thumbnail links to generate these referals.

Found this thread via the following:

DPCPrints FAQ Link

Some questions that I think are semi-related to promoting your prints (I hope)...

I'm getting a string of hits showing up in my Referral Reports that have the following Referred User info: Guest / 65.54.*.*

I have tracking text in place that lets me know what gallery page of my website that the referral is coming from and they all have appeared to come from my website.

The Referring URL information is empty for all of these.

Questions:
1)Is the Guest/65.54.*.* generic to DPC?
2)What parameters/coding do I need to employ to populate the Referring URL information column?

It almost seems like a web spider, etc... is running thru the links of my website, but not all links are being hit.

Any ideas?

Yeah I get this now and then - a list of several hundred "referrals" all from the same IPA. I think it is indeed a search engine spider or the like.

That particular ip, which hit a number of different people today, resolves to a Microsoft address so I'm guessing maybe it's the MSN spider?

For me, that IP shows up a LOT! Really curious where it's coming from. Guess it's not a big deal.

Anybody have an answer to getting the Referring URL info to populate?

Do you mean in general or in relation to the spiders? You can't get a referral url for a spider because they aren't picking you up from another location.

Rex - Thanks. The Referral Report line for your hit to my prints shows like this:

-- Yesterday 08:01 PM User / 69.164.*.* profile.php dpc

Ok - The Referring URL question is a nevermind. I am getting those, just not as many as I would like (since they are actual people generating!).

Example of Referring URL line from log on DPCPrints:
-- 7/25/05 11:38 PM Guest / 24.179.*.* print.php images3 //glad2badad-images.com/frmGallery3.htm

It appears that the spider hits are coming from various locations. Some research results from my referral log on DPCPrints:

Tons of these:
-- 7/31/05 11:51 AM Guest / 65.54.*.* print.php images5a

This type appears to be hitting all of the various images I have posted on my personal website since they include the tracking text of the gallery pages. Website is being hosted by Yahoo Small Business.

Pattern for the 65.54.*.* ip in roughly the last 24 hours:
8/3/05 7am 21 hits
8/3/05 3am 1 hit
8/2/05 7pm 37 hits
8/2/05 6pm 1 hit
8/2/05 1pm 49 hits
8/2/05 11am 1 hit
8/2/05 8am 12 hits
8/2/05 6am 21 hits

...rather sporadic pattern.

Other IP's showing up in a similar fashion are:
68.142.*.*
66.249.*.*

These appear to be a result of coming thru hits on the DPC side. I have tracking text in place to know when My Prints have been hit using the dpc link available in my profile/signature line.

Thanks again Rex...I was typing up the monster post below while you were busy. This is the line from the DPCPrint log refreshed just a minute ago.

-- 24 minutes ago User / 65.82.*.* profile.php dpc
