I'm a little annoyed. I understand that if you have a photo that is doing badly, people make comments. However, I have always made comments that were either good or gave my two cents worth. So why is it that people can't help but be rude in the comments page for your photo??? i think that if you have a comment, it should be criticism...but in a helpful way. If you are just going to make a comment that is rude...then maybe they should keep them to themselves!!

Look at every comment very carefully, you will learn something from them all. It's not personal, it just is.

I have to agree with Kathryn... I have gotten a couple "not so helpful, rude" comments with a current challenge... I know some comments are direct and not to be taken personally, but then there are the others that could have been worded a bit more tactfully or not made at all...

one must take comments with a grain of salt.....more often than not the commentor does not know what they are talking about.........

Oh I tell myself that, especially when I look at their profile and notice that they have either 1) not entered into any challenges, or 2) scored well below what I am scoring or 3) see the VERY YOUNG AGE of the commentor... LOL... Its still annoying though...

it really doesn't matter what a commentor puts if it is not helpful feedback than it is more about them than about you......some lack of self-esteem on there part etc........:-)

I say just don't mark it as helpful and wait for the next comment. :)
Good luck on your photo.

I just had a look at your long exposure image as well as the comments to see if there was one there that you might have been referring to. I didn't see anything that I would have called out of line. I did notice, however, that you didn't mark anything that wasn't complimentary as helpful. Personally, I think those were the most helpful comments you received. "Cool Shot" doesn't help anything but one's ego. A couple people said the image was confusing to them - learn from them because if they took the time to say it, a lot of others were thinking it. The scores weren't that great so apparently quite a few folks had one or more issues with the image.

To Gatorguy: It wasn't in the long exposure image. It is in the current challenge being voted on. I take helpful criticism and apply it to the next challenge (and all of my photographs actually). This person was blatently rude and i took some offense to it because of the fact that he/she could have been more helpful in his/her analysis.

TeeQ: Only bad part is that his/her name was blocked during voting.

FYI: I take this website as a learning tool to become a better photographer. I like reading the forums and getting new ideas of subjects to use for my next photograph. I like criticism and will take it well when it comes to my photos. This person might have thought that he/she was being helpful, but a little more analysis or just plain common courtesy would be nice. =)

rather than 'constructive criticism'.....'helpful feedback' would be best applied..............

I just assume the person is trying to be witty, and is only achieving half thier goal.
