actually i was thinking along the same lines too. i always thought i would be doing the ladies a favour since by keeping the seat up, it would remain clean from spilt drops... hmm...

I just pee out the window, I don't even have to get out of bed.

In winter, I go make yellow snow

Actually, I was taught urine is not that un-sanitary as it seems. In first aid training in the navy, we were always taught, when treating a protruding abdominal wound, the next best thing to use to moisten the battle dressing if you don't have bottled, sterilized water is , yes, to urinate on it. It is preferred even over drinking water out of the tap. (not trying to be gross, but it is the truth)

Right, uninfected urine is sterile, and better to put on wounded tissue because the salt content prevents dehydration. Urine is just blood with the cells, platelets, and proteins filtered out by the kidneys ... whatever is in your urine was in your blood a few minutes before.

Now, let's all make sure we're putting the lid down when we flush so I don't have to describe the meaning of "aerosolize" to you ...

It is awful, if you have ever fallen in or gotten stuck, ouch! It makes me even mader because my husband always puts the seat down, and when a vistor comes to our house and leaves the seat up, oh boy!

Guys, put a rubber snake in the toilet with the head sticking up just above the rim of the seat. That way when she sits, gets tickled and then freaks out, the next time she goes to tinkle she'll look first and see that the lid is up. Job done. :-)

I settled this LONG ago, if I can lift the damn thing you can put it down.

when Im done with my business I put the seat down and close the lid. Problem solved. but this will make your pets mad as you just now blocked their water supply so its a no win situation.

I say leave it like you found it.

Guys should be the seat down when they are done (and OMG please clean up errant sprinkles yourself!!!) and everyone should put the lid down before flushing. According to a microbiology professor of mine, flushing causes little aerosol droplets to form... and I don't know how far away your bathroom sink and toothbrush holder is, but.... yuck! Put down the seat AND the lid too when you're done!!

It's alright if your butt touches it but not your hands? Seems to me it would be less trouble to wash your hands than your butt.

Yeah but how often does your butt touch your mouth? That's the issue...

This thread is just too funny! LOL

My take on the issue, wether we mean to or not, urine from the man AND the woman kinda gets spalashed on the rim of the bowl. I don't know why this happens but it's always like that and somehow the lid stays clean. I'd hate to sit in someone else's puddle of urine. If the man doesn't put the seat up to begin with then the same applies to the toilet seat and it's just as gross and very inconvenient to have to wipe it down when your bladder is about to burst. Of course the cold seat and falling in issues are also a big part of it. Any women out there have any potty training for men tips for me??? ;)

I think guys should just sit down to pee and the whole issue would be moot. Eliminates the whole sprinkling issue as well. I can't believe I've commented in this thread.

If God had intended man to sit down to pee, He wouldn't have invented the towel rack!

Actually, come think of it, I think the best solution for this problem is to have his and hers bathrooms! LOL

Two solutions for the man to help the women with the seat situation

1) installation of the oft-overlooked urinal

- or -

2) use of the oft-overlooked off-the-deck, a nice view of nature as nature visits us (usually only works for country folk or if you have very understanding neighbors...and the garden isn't next to the deck...or the pool isn't next to the deck...)

It's late.

One solution might be an automated lock on the toilet door that would remain locked while the seat is up.

here's my opinion......

Leave it UP, then the women know you were courteous enough to put it up when you went.

You guys mean to say that if I leave it up tonight, she might actually fall in and get stuck!?

COOL!!

This one is a myth that the guys in Mythbuster proofed that was not true.

But as a man than I have to say that I want everybody to close the toilet after their use ... why leave the toilet open? I don't like it when I go into the bathroom at home to brush my teeth and there are open toilet next to me ... that is just something about this that I don't feel like it should be ...
But yeah I always close the toilet after my use and I think everybody can do that ... but girls! please then remember to open the toilet before you let go ;)

I recently bought a new toilet for my bathroom that solved this problem, it cannot be flushed while open, so everyone using it is forced to put down the seat and lid before flushing, very simple, the button for flushing is behind the lid while open so it has to go down to reach the button.

and I have 2 kids, 2 and 4 year old that somtimes play in the bowl ;)

whats this with females going to the toilet in the middle of the night
go before you get into bed....sleep all night...go to toilet in the morning
there should be no need to go in the dark when you can't see and if you go before you can't hold on any longer you will have time to check for kids sprinkles and clean them up

:)

So if we're expected to put it down, why don't we just close it all the way? It looks better that way.. are you gonna sit on the lid and pee all over it? ;)

Actually, I do put the lid down all the way everytime. Is that supposedly just as bad as leaving it up? I see no real difference.
