Has anyone ever used an on camera softbox? What are the pros/cons of having one? And where can I find one for a decent price?
I have a Nikon SB600 flash, and I just don't like that the light seems to be focused on one area. Will the softbox help spread out the light and make it more even?
I would most likely mainly use this for weddings.
Thanks!
Lorrie

It will soften up the light but not necessarily "spread it out". It just makes the actual surface area of the front of the flash bigger. This will allow for a wider area directly ahead of the camera to be covered, but this also stops down the power of the flash (amount of stops depending on the softbox).
If you want to send the flash in all directions I would recommend an Omnibounce. These are popular although I have had no personal use with them.
Hope this helps,
Lee

You can zoom your flash out to 18 or 24 mm or somethin too...u might have known that but if not that will help for sure. omnibounces/other diffusers will definitely suck a stop or 3 out of your flash power but will give softer light. Remember you can always bounce off the ceiling if its not that high...thats one of my favorite things to do. |

Photoflex has a groovy inflatable softbox that I use a lot with great results. I think their at photoflex.com. They are about $25. |
