Geneva (NY - smart@$$ scalvert :-) is about an hour and a half from Ithaca. At least it's a pretty drive.

I fly into Sryacruse and drive to Geneva for the week.

Geneva's pretty!
(Just don't stop at too many wineries on your drives between the lakes!)

Well....the smoosh up grapes and ferment it in barrels...
My advice, ask them for their best white. A lot of the vines here have another 100 years to go. The best wines are found further west. Bully Hill wine is made near Keuka Lake--that's fairly decent wine. (Of course, it all depends on what you like in a wine.)

Gimme some Red Cat, works for me! Keep in mind I used to know a guy that worked there in a very nice position, got me lots of free wine.

Weather forecast update:

Now weather.com is saying that Saturday will be Partly Cloudy with a high of 48F (48!!!!). So it looks like the rain may be off, but it's still supposed to rain on Friday so hopefully the falls will be running. So dress warm, and pack some rain gear just in case.

For Oct 16th, I just invited some more locals. Hope that's ok? :) I also told them about FLP and dpc.

I have rearranged my schedule, and now I'm planning to come on the 15 for the GTG on the 16th. Hope that is closer to peak for the trees. Not enough seems to be happening here yet (well, a few trees with nice reds), and I think I am a bit north of Ithaca in terms of lattitude.

That's fine. I've updated the attendee list to reflect your change. The trees are really changing here. If I had to guess, I'd say we're about 50%, so I think both weekends will ge bood.

Well the weather forecast isn't looking so good anymore. There's a 60% chance of rain on Saturday at this point. It might be better to just concentrate on next weekend instead. Any thoughts?

I agree. I don't feel like shooting in the rain...

So, are we having shoots on the 15th and 16th? Confused by TLL061's comment. :-)

I'm going to tell the other (that emailed me) that we're going to reschedule to next week. Okay?

And the 16th will be starting at Robert Treman Park? Where exactly? I have a bridal shoot there at 9 to 10am, so anytime after that I'll be free to join! :)

Is that what was decided? Sorry, I haven't had a chance to read this entire thread yet...! I've been spot checking now and then.

Other than the falls at the bottom and at the top is there anything of interest in between?
10/07/2005 08:15:14 AM · #121
There's a few falls at the top and bottom - a smaller maybe 12 foot falls, then a heart shaped bowl falls, rock walls, lots of trees for foliage, a couple of large falls that I posted above, etc. I was thinking when people get tired of that walk, we can do something else. :) There's a nice picnic park at the top so if we walk around starting at the top from say 10 to noon roundtrip, picnic at the top somewhere and then go somewhere else for a few hours? Ithaca Falls for those who haven't seen it and since you guys aren't going to do Buttermilk this weekend now - maybe there?

Where else in Ithaca do people want to go? I just want some cool foliage, some falls, and some company. :)

Saturday's (tomorrow the 8th) weather looks truly prohibitive for our GTG. Though I'm very disappointed, I also know that the glens can be extremely hazardous in wet weather. (I may take a trip up with my husband on Sunday, since the waterfalls may prove exciting to shoot after all that rain.)

Sunday the 16th, weather permitting, should be great for a GTG! I'll be there!
--eqsite: Could you start a revised list for that day and share it?
--all: Picnic? I think, with enough vehicles and coolers, we could have a nice mid-day rest in one of the parks. If we decide to go with a picnic, Ithaca Bakery is not far from Stewart Park and can provide out-of-towners (and lazy people like me) with very nice deli sandwiches.
--all: So....where do you want to go? I'm happy anywhere. Like mavrik, I just want some cool foliage and some company. (Falls are nice, too.) Most of the falls have upper access. Depending on number and size of vehicles we could park at both bottom and top and save on back-tracking on foot.

OK, I'm officially cancelling this Saturday's GTG (do I have that authority???). At the moment, I believe that we are only planning for Sunday, Oct. 16th at this point. If there are people interested in doing the 15th as well, I'm game, but the main event is for the 16th.

I know that there were a few requests to do Taughannock on the 16th, so I think that needs to be in our agenda. Treman is good, too. The lower falls at Buttermilk are very easy to get to (no hiking) so we might as well plan a stop there. Would it still make sense to meet at Stewart Park at sunrise (7:20 am)? We could then head down to Treman to meet up with Mavrik after his photo shoot ends at 10am. Then stop at Buttermilk on the way to get lunch. Have a picnic lunch at the Treman boat marina on the southwest end of the lake (on the way to Taughannock). Then do Taughannock in the afternoon. How does that sound?

The original post in this thread has been updated with my current list of attendees. Should I start another thread at this point?

I think that's a great idea.

Good move. I'm pretty sure I'll be there on the 16th. I still have to figure out my hotel sutuation. Big GTG are a lot of fun.

eqsite: Sorry. Didn't see the updated post on page 1--I've been blasting past it into the end of the thread. No need to start a new thread. We'll all just know to look "up there."

I like your proposed itinerary.
