I just booked Hampton Inn in Ithaca. I hope it doesn't rain.

we won't care if it rains! We are going even if it's raining! We are doing this regardless of the weather, one way or another, kay?

Partly sunny. Highs in the 60's for Sunday.
(But I'm bringing my fancy showercap cover anyway.)

Well, we hadn't firmed up the plans so I hadn't made a reservation yet (I did have one for last week there, but that doesn't count). Just got off a telecon and went to book and it's now sold out (as is Hampton Geneva, and Ithaca). See my email for other options.

Update: I just reserved the Cortland Holiday Inn, also *** with internet access, similar price, nearby. Unless a local tells me that's a bad neighborhood, we'll be there.

Holiday Inn is in a fine "neighborhood" if you can call it that...it's an exit of route 81--lots of ammenities near by.

You'll be driving across town to go to Ithaca...get directions at the hotel. Roughly, you'll make a left out of the hotel and drive out to Port Watson Street. Make a right on Port Watson and travel through the South end of town. As Port Watson crosses Main St. it turns into Tompkins Street--continue until you reach route 281. Make a left. Drive South until you come to Dryden. Make a right at the light to follow route 13. This will take you into Ithaca after a bit. As you head down the large hill get to the right lane and look for the Stewart Park exit.

(Alternatively, in Cortland, locals may send you down Clinton Ave, which becomes Groton Ave after it crosses Main St. Groton Ave takes you to 281 also--left turn and same deal. I don't know which way has fewer lights--but I'd recommend the first directions as it cuts Southwest across town and that's where you want to go.)

Either way, plan about 30 minutes to get there.

I would so love to spend the night in a motel on Saturday up there so I don't have to get up as early. That was the one thing I wanted for my birthday, a night alone, no kids, no animals, no nothing, just me, a bed, a TV and maybe a really large tub for my big butt. But we take what we can get and deal with what we have.

I will be there Sunday, if I'm not I am either dead, in the mental ward or jail from killing someone.

1. You'd still have to pack up and check out before you left the hotel...so time saved = zero.
2. Hands off Slippy!
3. 112 Hours and 18 minutes

edit for typos

I just PM'd everyone on the list for Sunday (see original post) with my cell number in case there's any trouble Sunday morning. I hope everyone is still planning on being there. If you didn't get a PM, it's more than likely that you aren't on the list, so either PM me or post to this thread.

Right now the forecast is 40% chance of showers, high of 52F, so make sure to bring some wet weather gear just in case.

It sounds like we may have a fairly large group planning on attending, between DPC members and non-members. I think this is going to be fun regardless of the weather.

Here's the current itinerary as best as I can lay it out:

7:00-7:30am - Meet at Stewart Park (sunrise is at 7:20am).
Shoot for about an hour and a half.

9:00am - Go to Buttermilk Falls and shoot for another hour or so.

10:30am - Meet mavrik and n8trchik at Treman State Park and shoot there for a couple of hours.

12:30pmish - Grab some lunch - picnic at Treman Marine park on the lake weather permiting.

2:00pmish - Head up to Taughannock Falls and shoot for as long as you like.

This schedule sounds a little hectic now that I've written it out, so we'll be flexible - just so long as someone makes it to Treman by 10:30 to meet mavrik and n8trchik.

Less than 69 hours to go!
(Thanks for all your work eqsite, you're doing a great job! Will you be bringing the pink tourguide umbrella? =o)

Bahhh -- who needs to work for a living anyway. I think I may try to get some bagels and cream cheese from Collegetown Bagels so folks can have something to get them going in the morning. I think you all will be on your own for coffee or other beverages unless anyone else wants to volunteer.

I'll be arriving Saturday 5-6PM. Anybody wants to meet up for dinner?
I'm staying in Ithaca at Hampton Inn (337 Elmira Rd).

Sure, I'm game for that. What about nshapiro and scalvert? What time are you guys planning to get into Cortland?

We're probably driving separately, then meeting up Saturday to shoot sunset in the area. Dunno where yet. I might have a special guest member tagging along... ;-)

I've not heard back from him yet, but I just pm'd him this morning. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Okay, I am sooooooooooooooooo excited! This has been my anchor this week, has kept me from going off the deep end, has been my salvation!

But now I'm afraid to meet up with all of you because you might be afraid of me because of my crazy posts. I promise, I'm not like this in real life, I AM WORSE BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Deannda
Can you tell I'm getting excited!

Oh and do I have to "CLEAN" clean my van or can I get away with just getting the floor picked up?

Less than 66 hours to go.
Deannda, you don't scare me!
I'm not riding in your van, my van is clean, never actually clean clean, but I don't have kids, either.

I'm still debating the driving apart versus together Shannon. I would definitely prefer your company along the way, but also key is where we can go to shoot!

If we meet in Ithaca, can someone suggest a Saturday afternoon agenda?

If we drive together, we'd be going through the Catskills near Woodstock, per this route:

RT-28 - go 28 mi
RT-30 - go 23 mi
RT-206 - go 10 mi

Rt 28 looks like it will be scenic. Has anyone driven it? Good places for photography, or are we better off with an extra day in Ithaca?

Me! I have! Many times! (I used to live in Saugerties near Woodstock, my parents live near Cortland.) Would you PM me where you're coming from--because you seem to be trying to go over the hills and through the woods--not all bad, but I wonder if you've chosen the best route?

I grew up near Woodstock and travel that exact route whenever I visit my parents. It's a beautiful drive. An option would be to take Rt. 28A which goes along the south side of the Ashokan Reservoir and then meets back up with Rt. 28. There are some great places for shooting around there, with nice views of the Catskills.

Rt. 30 from Margaretsville to Downsville winds around the Pepacton Reservoir and is also very scenic, especially if there is foliage.

206 from Downsville to Whitney Point goes through lots of foothills and dairy land.

The whole drive is worth doing if you've never been that way before.

I'm not sure your mileage is quite right though. Rt. 28 from Kingston to Rt. 30 is about 47 miles. Rt. 30 from Rt. 28 to Rt. 206 is about 27 miles, and Rt. 206 from Rt. 30 to I-81 which takes you the rest of the way to Cortland is about 83 miles. Not sure if this was actually your intended route though.
