The sun really does perk you up. I hate the gloomy days of winter.

No sun here. Very cloudy and we just had a downpour, but it stopped again.

Edit: Just checked weather.com again.

Windy. Rain showers in the morning becoming less numerous in the afternoon. Cooler. High 51F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Tomorrow's gonna be wet - we can just accept that as fact.

My bridal shoot has been cancelled so we will meet you all at Buttermilk at 9am. 7am is great for the light but not if it's overcast. Then it's just dark. We'll see everyone at 9am! I gotta go shoot a wedding.

Wow, this thread as moved on a long way since I last checked in! Sad to hear that a few of us can't make it this time, I'm definitely still going though! Only I'm kinda dissapointed - I've ordered an Canon XT and lens...the lenses have arrived, but the body doesn't get here til Wednesday :-(.

See you all tomorrow!

I'm in geneva. A little disappointed with the foliage up here. How's it look in Ithica? So where are we meeting in the morning? I'll be down there 6-7am.

Honestly, I have no clue, it's looking good around Elmira

We're meeting at Stewart Park just off Route 13 as you head East/North--there's an exit for it. When you enter the park bear to the right and look for the nuts with the tri-pods.

As for the foliage, we don't have blazing hillsides yet. But there will be plenty to take photos of, I promise. And if you're here for another week you'll get to watch it change!

Besides, I think you'll find this group is plenty colorful itself. =)

I'm at the opposite end of Seneca Lake from you in Geneva...and am sort of between Elmira and Ithaca. I just came from Elmira and I'd say we are about the same here. There's color but it's not the best...mostly rustic colors/dead. No bright reds or anything, that I've seen. Still, it's better than nothing.

Last I knew, eqsite said to meet at Stewart Park at the southern end of Cayuga Lake. I believe he said to follow the road around to the right and meet there.

Hope you had a good trip!

I thought we were going there after? I thought we were meeting in Stewart Park, then going to Buttermilk, then to Treman, then picnic, and then Taughannock.

Here, I just found Gary's message:

Originally posted by eqsite:

"we are planning on
meeting in Stewart Park around sunrise and shooting there for about an
hour and a half (until around 9:00). Then we will head to Buttermilk
Falls and shoot there for another hour (until around 10:00). We are
planning to meet up with someone at Treman State Park around 10:30am and
spend another hour or two in the gorge there. That should bring us to
lunch time, so we're hoping to picnic at Treman Marine park (back near
the lake) if weather permits. If weather doesn't permit, we'll figure
something out. After lunch, those of us who have any energy left will
head on up to Taughannock Falls to finish off the afternoon.

This schedule sounds a little hectic now that I've written it out, so
we'll be flexible."

FYI - Everything is within 10 or so miles. Not very far apart.

hmm, I'll have to think about it. I need to maximize the photo ops.

Don't think. Just come. Believe me, you'll be in the best hands for this sort of thing. I came over Route 79 a week ago and I know there's color on the hills--like we'll most likely see when we get to Treman. Jen's right about the 10 minutes between places...it's not ten miles and hope for the best with the traffic...it's really just 10 minutes.

Here's a map to give you an idea. From Stewart Park to Buttermilk it's probably 3 miles or something. Five to the lower end of Treman and maybe 10 to the upper part of Treman.

Ignore the Watkins Glen map. I had originally made this for someone else. I added a couple things for tomorrow.

Whoever decided not to do dinner today missed a beautiful sunset. Here are some shots without ANY editing.

Those looks great Nick! I was watching it and saying how I should be taking pictures...but I had to take care of my kids (goats) and didn't feel like getting the camera. The lake made a great fg for it. Something I didn't have here, a nice fg.

Okay, just so you all know, I did not clean out my van today, I'll so some quick cleaning before leaving in the morning but I was working on the new website all day so didn't even get outside to do it.

Just got my cards cleaned off, wondering what I did with my tripod (think it's in the van) and making my lunch.

See you all in the AM!

Even taking a shower so I won't offend with my BO! :)

Nick!
Nice pics of the sunset!
Where'd you eat...were you at the Boatyard Grill, by chance? (I love that place!)
I have my rocket blower and will bring it with me...I tend to be over-prepared most of the time.
I ought to get to sleep so I can get up in time.
See you all in a few hours! Only 10 to go!

We went for Chineese. It was somewhere on 13. Not far from Hampton Inn.

Thanks for the blower. You can never be over-prepaired!

I did a bunch of scouting today. There's not much color at Stewart Park, but it should be really cool at sunrise -- I'm betting there will be some fog which makes for interesting shooting. Taughannock is absolutely a torrent and there is good color up there. Some decent color at Buttermilk as well, and plenty of water. I didn't make it over to Treman, but I'm betting that will be pretty good. There's definitely more foliage up on top of the hills than down in the valley, so if people are bored at Stewart, we can go explore up the hill a bit before heading to Buttermilk.
