Yay! I've been waiting for the Song Title idea to be a challenge! Many ideas running through my head. =-D

I think the only thing that will be a problem will be on voting. Hopefully a photo will not be marked down just because someone doesn't know the song. The best way to vote (in my opinion) on this challenge should be based on the technical aspect of the photo. Everyone isn't going to know the song your photo is based on. Just my thoughts...

Here's a question: Would it be a good idea to include the song title, lyric and artist in the photo's title?

But then again a meaning could be contained that a viewer does not understand, making the photo, while not technically perfect, very demonstrative. I try and give the photographer the benfit of the doubt, in photos that have symbolism, that there is an underlying meaning. Therefore I abstain from voting on the ones that I "don't get" because I do not feel that I can do justice to evaluating it.. . . but thats just me

Whether I get the symbolism or not, to me, it all comes down to, is it a good photo or not.

I personally think that the song title or a small snippet of the lyrics would be helpful.

I wish I could gauge the average age of voters here... It'd be nice to know how many folks know who the Beatles were... Or Tom Paxton... Or Phil Oches...

I'm thinking that while you could treat this as an open challenge as there are so many songs out there that you could merely find one to fit, the highest scorers will be popular song titles. I'm personally doing 'How do you solve a problem like Maria'. That'll kill 'em.

At worth1000.com they had a couple of similar contest with song titles. I would definately suggest the song name in the title, saves on much confusion. The same problem was experienced with age differences and genre differences. The key is to stay on the "mainstream" as much as possible. It does hurt the creativity but at least more voters understand your creation.

Tom Lehrer? How about some Schubert lieder (songs)?
This would be an excellent challenge to have the photographer's notes show, so that we don't have to squeeze the song title and composer all into the photo title.

I'm 18 and like the Beatles. I was even thinking about using one of their songs for the challenge. =-D

Some of the song titles are strange too--like the Bee Gee's 'Bald Headed Woman'---or that song by Don McLean about a starry starry night, then he titles it 'Vincent'----whats up with that???
Happy New Year every one!!

You're joking, right? :)

Starry night was painted by Vincent Vangough, a pretty famous painting and artist.(I don't know the proper spelling of his name.)

But what I want to know is, who are the Beatles :)

I probably won't have heard any of the songs people will be doing, so I will judge the photograph on the photograph alone, and not the song relativity.

Then "Pollution" would seem a natural...or maybe "Vatican Rag" -- surely he's the only writer to rhyme the word transubstantiate in a song lyric...
Maybe it's time for "When You Are Old And Gray"

Thought of one that would be a great photo: "Blurry" by Puddle of Mud. =-)
