Funny thing is, I rarely give 3's and almost never 2's or 1's. I have sort of a personal standard that remains consistent from challenge to challenge; that is to say, I don't "grade" on a curve within a given challenge but against a relatively fixed set of standards.
My average on scores given is actually climbing, but it takes a long time to make a statistical difference when you've cast as many votes as I have. I give more 5's than 4's, and WAY more 6-and-above than 3-and-below. On the average challenge (200 entries give-or-take) I'll give out maybe 30 6's, 20 7's, 6-12 8's, and a few 9's and sometimes a 10 or two. On really strong challenges, the ones that sing, I give proportionally more of the higher scores.
For the first few months I was here, I was "grading" to an unrealistically high standard. I'll be happier when my average climbs above 5, which it will soon.
