Does anybody have any experience with this?
Recommendations, praises, warnings, things to watch out for? |

I bought one. I love it. No complaints yet. Love that I can control the amount of flash (i.e. stop it down). I don't end up with the deer in the headlights look. :) A great cheaper alternative to the 580EX.

Why not go for the Sigma 500 DG Super, same spec as the Canon 550ex, maybe not the same build quality, but its an incredibly good flash for the same price as the 430ex. Defintely one worth checking out. |

I have the 430ex. I love it but admittedly it is my first experiance with an off camera flash so I have nothing to compare it with. the reason I chose that one over the sigma is mostly because it takes the sensor size in account when zooming. With your 20D that will come in handy since you have the 1.6x crop with your sensor. I love this flash. It is very intuitive and has changed the way I take pictures in a big way.

Like fstopopen, I'm not too experienced with flash. I bought a sunpak 40something first (desparately needed it for a shot for the paper and could find no other flashes available that day) and after a week had to take it back. I was unsatisfied. :) Bought the Canon and have been extremely satisfied. But I don't know any better.
Essentially, for my skill level with flash, it works well. Maybe after 10,000 uses I might want more (can't conceive of what more I would need) but I can't see myself taking 10,000 pictures with flash either. And it works as a slave unit or by itself so it works for me. :)

I swore never to use flash again back in the 70's. I just bought a 430EX a few weeks ago to shoot a wedding I got talked into. I absolutely love it. I', amazed at how versatile the rotation/angle of the head is. For example, pgorographing rare books, I am pointing the flash up and backwards (towards me) and bouncing it off a large piece of white paper back at the books, and this is working supremely well. At the wedding I bounced it off the ceiling and got very natural light. I've done two challenge entries with it, and those are bounced also.
So I'm just a flashy, bouncing bear :-)

Loved the bouncing bear mental image! I use a 530ex with various flash accessories and they help a LOT! Being able to send teh light 2 directions (in the case of an 80/20% etc... |

Does it also consider the sensor size on the Canon 300D or does this only work with E-TTL II cameras? (I'm having a hard time finding proper offical specs/features for canon flashes, do you know of any?) |
