This selective color is super impressive to the locals around here. I did the straighten thing, dropped the b&w conversion on top, did a mask to paint in the color part and then a slight gaussian blur to the BG.
I forgot to crop after the straighten - oops.

A different take - soft focus, and a different kind of crop. I tried to keep the space on the side hhe was looking toward fearing that it wold look odd if he was looking into nothing, but it's not bad this way.

OK, I've added a few of my own to the fray. There are a couple problems with the source image I should mention, however:
ΓΆ€ΒΆ The contrast from the blown sky makes it very difficult to get a proper amount of light on the face without blowing out the sky once again
ΓΆ€ΒΆ There was a tremendous amount of JPEG artifacting in the source

That said, here is a "warm", "cold" and "platinum" (referring to the toning process, not the word "premiere") version of the B/W (converted from your color original):

The warm version has a more correct histogram, but I like the cold version better. My preference. If you want to know the process, PM me.

Edit: I should say that I kind of like your original B/W (with better attention to removing the sky, of course, since you missed several spots). Since it's hard to take a 640px low quality JPEG and make it look good, your original B/W is probably the "cleanest" of the revisions yet posted. If you created a a vignetted edge and left the rest alone (OK, maybe a crop), it would look like this:

This kind of photo lends itself well to any process that makes it look "aged" or "damaged", such as:
