Democracy (some form of). Proper representation.

Just trying to figure where you're going in the context of this thread. I thought you might be implying that the vote on the ammendment was somehow effected by redistricting, which I can't see how it would be.

In regards to gerrymandering, I hope that California will get some scrutiny next. Districts there are so screwed up its ridiculous. At the state level, the Democrats have the districts tuned so there will very likely never be any opposition to their control of the state.

This thread has context!? Perhaps... and no, the results of the vote have nothing to do with the SC hearing this case. (SC = Supreme Court, not Site Council).

I am unaware of what California's districts look like. But, having spent millions of $$ in special sessions for redrawing maps in Texas, while not having school budget settled is something that no party should be proud of.

If California's districts look like the Texas ones, well, they should be redrawn too.

In photoshop language, I don't believe in Ctrl+Alt+Tilde when drawing congressional maps. It should be a simple marquee selection tool:-)

With all the commotion surrounding Elton John's wedding plans, the BBC has been linking to a number of interesting articles on this theme.

This one

//news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4081999.stm

includes details of all the places where civil unions are already allowed. It was not something that came up in discussion, I think, that a number of US states already permit it, including Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The world does not appear to have ended in those places...

Congratulations to Elton John and David Furnish on their civil union today. And to all the other couples who have been united in England this week.

May I point out, as expected, the word "marriage" has been used frequently within this context and again the world hasn't ended! Everyone seems quite happy to live with what they think is meant by marriage.

Gay marriage is a wonderful thing. I could be homosexual or bisexual, I don't know. All I know for now is that I'm heterosexual.

Heck, I think people have no right to tell what others should or shouldn't do when it's something as sure as love. It's not like they're killing anyone physically.

It's sad we all love to preach equality for all, but yet refuse to really give it out with the same ease as our mouths do.

No one has the right to say what is and what isn't right
I am a Christian, but that doesn't mean everyone else in the world is, so those who aren't shouldn't be told what they can do, and who they can or can't love.

I'm another liberal, trapped in Texas. If I live here when I'm older, It'll be in Austin. Otherwise, I am out of here.
