Freakin Smugmug rocks my world....
You just can't beat them...they have some of the best customer service ever and they just plain rock. I have the Pro account there...I've ordered a bunch of prints and they turn out perfect for me.
I just can't complain... It's well worth the money. |

I'll add my 2 cents for Smugmug! As far as I'm concerned, they have the very best customer service in the whole world.
I'm kind of surprised to hear that someone was disappointed in the print quality. It beats any other place far and away, in my experience. Wondering if perhaps it is an issue between "auto color correct" and "true" color? I have all my stuff defaulted to print in true color, and I'm pretty sure other places don't give you that choice (Walmart, etc.) Recently I sent a file to a cousin for her Christmas cards and she printed it at Snapfish - yuck! I held the original Smugmug print up against the Snapfish and what a difference - the Snapfish print had auto-color corrected and the kid looked yellowish. Still good enough for the card, but definitely a difference.
Sure that if you wrote to them and explained the plight, they'd be super fast to provide advice and counsel and whatever else you needed to make you happy. |

In my amateur opinion it isn't necessary. I don't use any color management and my prints come out very nice. I edit my photos in sRGB, but I don't save any color profile in the image.
Did you select the 'True color' option for your smugmug prints? If not, then that may be the problem. If you don't select 'True Color' it defaults to the 'Autocolor' option, which adjusts the colors to what it thinks they should be. From smugmug's help page...
"True color is intended for pro photographers and serious amateurs who have the time and skill to adjust their photos perfectly."
So, if you took the time to adjust the colors yourself, why let 'Auto color' change them? You should give Truecolor a try and see if that works better for you.

It's good to know that you're enjoying it. Yes, f/2.8 on that lens would be awesome, but then nobody could afford to buy one. :) I expect to see you replace all of my photos on the lens page. Good luck!

I use Photoreflect - //www.photoreflect.com You can choose the printer and if you like smugmug, use ezprints like they do. I use All American Photo and LOVE them. They are about the same % off the top but NO yearly fee!! No event fees, nothing.

I have a 19" Nokia Multigraph 446XPro. I read somewhere that Nokia no longer makes monitors, which is unfortunate because they made excellent monitors. I've been using this one for about 10 years now and it's still rock solid. (knock on wood)

just got more prints from smugmug and also people that ordered from me both of our prints are great. Try calibrating or adjusting you monitor a bit. Only time I had this problem was when I ordered from winkflash all the photos came out dark. But Smugmug is great also very easy to update you site if you are a pro user. Smugmug rocks and good customer service
My only confusion is changing your host name, I have been updating my smugmug site and I have a godaddy website name I want to use but I am just confused I even read the instructions on sumgmug of how to change it, but I'll try to figure it out.

i just linked from godaddy to my site.
That way all they have to know is lawsonimages.com
instead of lawsonimages.smugmug.com
I wanted to be able to move my site without changing my name if I decide to do something different. |

I also have say SMUGMUG ROCKS!!!!
It earned my admiration. I am very difficult to please when it comes to such things. I have had SMUGMUG for several months now and I have finally begun to learn how to build it.
Right now I use it simply to show my work and maybe some family history.....that̢۪s it for now. I like life simple....real simple. SMUGMUG is fine for me right now. I love it!!!! |
