Talking about lighting, I should improve on mine as well. According to one of the comments I got, flash was used when it wasn't. I guess it's time to purchase another reading lamp to even it all out. So hard to impress you people! Lol. At least most of you are fun on these forums. |

I turned my scores off...lol.
I had a 6.5 with 20 votes when I went to bed, I woke up to a 5.4 this morning. Ugh....no way I'm looking at that all week.

My highest start ever, so I'm happy, considering it's only my fourth challenge.
I have a question for everyone: how (or do you) respond to commentors who score you lower because you didn't make any advanced editing corrections? I'm not bitter by any means, so I hope it doesn't come across that way. The comments are what I cherish more than the actual score, but I would like for them to be helpful within the requirements of the particular challenge. I'd like to PM those who asked questions or said they didn't like a certain part of the photo to ask what their suggestions are--is this a widely accepted practice on DPC?
I know my photo would have looked better if I were able to clone one aspect out, but it's basic editing, so I can't.
Any suggestions? |

Everytime I look at my entry, it keeps getting softer and softer (LOL)....I feel like turning back the clock or screaming like Don Ameche in the movie Trading Places when it's too late to recover his fortune....but with a few words replaced
"I want trading reopened (stopped) right now. Get those brokers (photo's) back in here! Turn those machines back on (off)!"

You could tell them just that. You could also consider a it a comment on your composition. When I look at composition I ask myself, "Is there anything there that shouldn't be or is anything missing?" Could you have removed those issues before taking your shot? Just food for thought.
In some cases PMing a commentor can be beneficial. It's not frowned upon. |

Funny thing is I didn't think about the pun until after I hit submit. Must have been Freudian. lol |

Started around 6.33 last night and slid throughout the day... Off with the scores for the rest of the week since the top score will probably be between a 7.5 and 8...
Now... Roads and/or Signs. |

Back up to a 5.1. Course it seems the people voting so far are either newer to the forum, or aren't looking for the same things the pros are lol. |

One of my lowest scores in a while. Comments mainly on my DOF. I totally agree now that I've had a chance to look at it. I cooked mine Tues. evening, shot the photo and submitted without much thought or 2nd look. The picture may not be great but the food was awesome. We had left overs tonight and it was even better tonight. :)

BTW There are some fantastic shot in this challenge. Some should be in a major cooking magazine or cookbook. Maybe we should do a DPC cookbook.

I agree there are some wonderful shots in this challenge worthy of magazines. I really enjoyed it because it made me do something "new".

Slowly climbing back up... If I can finish with a 5.8ish I'l be pretty satisfied, as that will probably be good enough to get in the top 20

I gotta say I am disappointed, I really made silly choice and I am paying for it in the scores....
I tried to shoot something rather simple, since I am a chef, and didnt want to get votes based on the fact that my food looked more professional rather then the photo...
Now I am sitting at a sorry 5.5 and really wishing I would have shot something else....
Regrets, I've had few....:) |

The sign reads: "Rae-Ann's gone off the deep end" Title of image: "Sign of trouble."
