For registered users it updates automatically once an hour. Go to your preferences and check the box to show your entry on the home page in the left hand column.

Paid members have the infamous update button and can update anytime.

edit: what scores we've received is just a guess from a calculation based on the average score and number of votes and the changes we see when we hit the update button.

Thank You, it finally updated. Not doing well, but updated! :)

Does anyone else notice all the insects, fish, domestic animals and the like in this challenge. None are in the challenge description. Also there seem to be many out of focus. What gives?

This is not to say that there are not many good shots in there. It just seems there are more poor shots (probably a tribute to how hard wildlife in the wild is to shot) and more than normal that do not meet the challenge. Hey, I'm one of them. My shot is a touch OOF but I chose it becasue I like the compostion better.

Started out higher than that. I knew mine would be controversial, so it will be fun to see the comments. People will think I didn't meet the challenge, until they think a little harder.

The last Wildlife challenge, the top 2 were zoo shots.

who the hell are ( some ) of you people to judge if the shots are taken in a zoo or in the wild??.. some wildlife live in parks in VERY natural surroundings...just because you see a fence or something else that makes you think it's domesticated is wrong.....this site really urks me with the carry on..

I noticed that and voted them a point or two lower.

I was pointing out that the best shots from the last challenge were zoo shots. I don't mind zoo shots.

And speaking of scores. Every time I hit that darn update button my score gets lower and lower. If this keeps up, I just might get the brown.

With all that bashing of zoo shots, having a shot taken in the wild does not seem to help my score, though :-(

I concur, I froze my fingers off and spent 2 trips to get mine. But taking a picture not at the zoo hasnt helped me one bit either. Oh well at least I can feel good about following the challenge, irregardless of what my score is.

I thought wildlife meant "wildlife" as in out in the wild? I'm seeing a lot of zoo pictures. They aren't wild if their in a zoo. That's confinement lol.

Anyhow, knew mine wouldn't do well this time around. Been horrible weather here lately and yesterday was my only good day to shoot and I didn't have much time. I'm sitting a lousy 4.0 out of 30 some votes so far.

Man, I've got to tell you... I've been chewing at the bit to participate in a wildlife round. Love the wildlife! And then I see this onee open up, and where I live it's been unseasonably warm. Really warm. So, I was all excited...

But then, I had a brutal week and it seemed like every single time I got a stretch of free time, the clouds moved in. I just coudn't coordinate free time with good light! Until Monday.

I went out into the field, got lucky, found what I was looking for, and then had a fifteen minute window of sunshine.

So, I'm just happy to be in the challenge! The subject of my photo is one I've been after for a long, long time. I'm just hoping for some nice feedback, some honest criticism, and maybe (just maybe) a score above 5.0!!!

I'm just having a ball looking at everybody's work. Wildlife is my favorite genre for photographic subjects. I feel like a giddy little school kid! LOL ~

And for the record, zoo shots don't wig me out so much. I do, honestly, have a bit of a personal judgment ~ in that I do personally value in-the-wild wildlife subjects over any manufactured environment, but not everybody's lucky enough to live where I live. I live in a snake and a region to where all I have to do is walk outside and start hunting about for great wildlife outdoors. Not everybody's so lucky. Zoos, when done right, are both educational and (IMHO) somewhat holistic. I personally believe it's healthy to engage with and experience wildlife. Therefore, I don't really mind zoos. Of course, having said that, I mean zoos when they're done right. There's nothing worse than a rotten ass zoo that doesn't take care of its own!!!

Keep the faith, good people of earth!!! LOL

Mine is very definitely wild, but I think its being interpreted differently.

Heck, if I knew zoo shots would be on here I would have had my wolf hybrid and boxer lab go at it and take pics of that lol. Those two play all the time and would make for some good shots.

This is reality. Most wildlife shots are in magazines are either semi-domesticated wildlife in wildlife parks or zoo shots. So, not to unexpected to see lots of possible zoo shots entered trying to get away with being wild. I see numerous bird bands, non-hibernating bears (non-polar), and others that I'm sure are not wild. But, not as many as I expected.

I think the first wildlife challenge didn't have a description like this challenge, so zoo shots met the challenge.

so much whining and moaning about zoo shots

can't we just vote on whether it's a good animal photo or a bad animal photo?

if zoo shots are SO evil, then why not say in the details, "no zoo shots"?...obviously the good people that run DPC aren't against them or it would have said that...especially since the winning photo in the last Wildlife challenge was from the Dallas Zoo

i guess i just can't see the big deal

ya know, there's plenty of DPCers who actually DO live in places where they can easily photograph exoctic animals...how are the rest of us to compete when we live places with nothing but ordinary squirrels and birds?...do you really think a great photo of a mockingbird would stand up to a great photo of an elephant out on the plains?...no way

Why cant everyone interpret the challenge the way they feel fit? And if that means that I interpret Zoo shots as "not wildlife", then so be it. IMHO any animal thats food is given to them directly by humans. Meaning its prepared and given to them isnt "wildlife" while they are animals they arent true "wildlife" to me. Thats how I interpret it and thats how I am voting. So you vote the challenge your way and everyone else is free to do the same.

IMO they're very much wildlife...try hopping into the tiger's or lion's paddock and pet one of them LOL

i just want everybody to get along, learn, have fun and vote on photo quality instead of what may or may not have been "meant" in the rules.

PERFECTLY said shane... i hate when these people go into forums saying 'this does't meet challenge, that doesnt' meet challenge, i find there is a lot of sheep out there, so they follow suit, this site is about photography, NOT about reading between lines in some english competition....

IMHO this is what sets DPC off from the others, it CHALLENGES you to shoot shots that meet the challenge description. Wildlife and Animals are 2 different things to me. Maybe not to you, but to me they are. Part of the scoring is read that did it meet the challenge, so to me thats an important part of my voting. And just because I have a different opinion doesnt mean I am not getting along does it? I am pretty sure I can have an opinion that differs from anyone elses.

im personally glad there are a lot of zoo or other park shots here, as there as so many people that just can't get to the 'wild' so that would mean 200 odd shots of birds and rats...!!
