Since Monday I have been teaching digital photography to a group of 6th graders. My school holds an annual Independent Study Week (ISW) and this year one of the options was digital photography. We have gone to a number of places to shoot in the past three days including the Potomac River, the Mall in Washington, the National Cathedral, the National Botanic Conservatory and the lower school to do portraits of the little kids. Below are some of the photos I have taken this week.

Did you write up any lesson plans or just kind of wing it? If you wrote up plans could I request a copy from you?
I just applied for a grant and am starting a project in my 6th grade class that does sort of the same thing, but more structured on the subject than an independent study. |

I commented on 3 of them.
Nice shots! You are doing a good job.

I'd like to say I wrote up a lesson plan but since it was just a 4 day thing (it ends tomorrow) I have to admit that I just winged it, but......
I've learned a whole lot doing this and I would be happy to write up some key things you should go over with them. PM me about it and we can talk. I'd be glad to help.

I honestly can not answer that right now. I actually have to cut the program short tomorrow because of a death in the family (my grandma died yesterday) and we have to drive up to MA tomorrow because the funeral is Friday. All of their pictures are on the Student Server at my school and once the ISW is over the kids are printing their best photos and taking the rest home on a CD. All of the photos are then going to be deleted from the server. Therefore I don't know whether or not I will be able to get them.

Sorry for your loss!
I bet the kids will give you a copy to post somewhere ... |

Worry about yourself and your family first. The pictures will always be around somewhere. I'll PM you next week about what you learned. Thanks, it will be great to get information from someone who has implemented something like this more than I have.
And about the winging it thing... teaching is my job and (don't tell anyone) but there are days that us full time people just do that too. I'm thankful for the Discovery Channel's videos.
One thing, if the kids took pictures with themselves or classmates in them, be wary about posting them online. I know my district has a strict policy about not posting any pictures without students in them. Might be something you'd have to check in to before posting shots the kids took, or having them post the pictures somewhere.
Edit: Your 14. Didn't notice that before. Nothing against that, just glad to see that older students are helping out with skills that they have.
