1. When you say "I wish had a super wide lens" when photographing Bighorn Sheep.

2. When you nearly wet yourself because two of these guys start butting heads right next to you.

3. When your thankful one of these guys licks you and not your lens.

4. When you can't take the picture because the subject is closer than your minimum focusing distance.

I had a great morning of taken photos, and just wanted to share my experience. Hope you don't mind!

Oh yeah, for you enviromentalists I didn't invade their space. I was shooting from a distance and they just mosied on up, until they were all around me.

This reminds me of a joke that an Afrikaans comedian once told. This guy (Tolla van der Merwe) said when he was a small boy, his dad gave him a .22calibre rifle to hunt small animals like buck and rabbit ets.
He said that this rifle was old and very weak - he had to go right up to the animal to get a kill.
After a while he got so good at sneaking up on these wild animals, that he had to sneak a couple of steps back just so that he can get the rifle up between himself and the animal.

5. When the hungry, ferocious ones are too lazy to tear you apart.

LOL - I was having an argument with a hunter friend of mine last week about which is the best - hunting with a camera or hunting with a rifle. I had the usual argument - you get the trophy and animal stays alive and then he came up with an ace;

He said: "What happens if you are "hunting" a Lion with your camera and the Lion decides to use you as a meal - will you flash him until he stops?" I say - just imagine the close-ups you will be able to get from a this meal of the Lion...

If you had a long enough lens, you could use it to defend yourself. And not to mention the tripod...

LOL - What kinda equipment do you use? My 300mm lens and cheapish tripod will only make matters worse. IDEA - When the Lion chases you and you see he is catching up; drop your camera equipment, thus making your load lighter in order for you to run faster...

Always take a friend with you, that you know you can outrun! In case of attack you only have to be able to outrun your friend.

That's right, you don't have to be able to outrun the animal, just the friend ... LOL

That darn wildlife paparazzi always catches me in the most embarrasing positions.

Wow, what an opportunity you had! Great shots(well, except for that last one!) ;-D I couldn't imagine getting that close to such amazing animals and have them be so tame. Lucky you! :)

Yeah, it was pretty cool oppurtunity. This older couple goes hiking there everyday and sees them all the time, even has some of them named. But the wife was telling me sometimes they chase bikers or runners. I guess I was lucky, if they can be that moody.

Thanks to all who left the nice comments!
