Any tricks how to activate AutoFocus on low light?

What type of picture are you looking to take? Still, action? If it is a set up or something you are taking time with, I have used a headlamp (when I have been out in the backcountry) to get the camera to focus on the particular subject, and continue to hold at half press, then turn off the light. Thing with it, was making sure that I was in Manual mode to keep the settings. Took a bunch before I realized it somehow went to total auto. Another thing you may try is turning on the landscape setting. Haven't tried it enough to give you any decent results.

My camera has light sensor which is looking for enough amount of light to activate AF, doesn't have manual focus at all!

Sorry, I meant the manual exposure, and shutter speed. Also (if your camera has it) AE-L/AF-L is a great tool. (autoexposure lock/autofocus lock). I set up the exposure and shutter speed then, I use the headlamp/flashlight to get the AF to work, then hit the AE/AF-L button to keep it set. Then I can take a bunch of shots without having to re-focus it.
My Nikon 5700 also has a menu AE/AF LOCK also that I have used on panoramas. Essentially works like the above, but the above "unlocks" if you change any of the setup. Hope that isn't too confusing. (C:

yeah i do one of 2 things in low light give my subject a cigarette lighter tell them to hold it while i get a focus lock then move it and take the picture, or just use a torch and try and get a focus with that :) thats in pitch black conditions though.

Never thought of a cigarette lighter. Great idea

I was reading on another forum that a laser pointer with a crosshairs gobo worked well for getting a focus lock. Also, just a regular dot but jiggled to "paint" a line vertically or horizontally let the autofocus lock on.

If I remember correctly, they were using a green laser with the crosshairs with the best effect.
