I staked out this stairwell from above for my Candid III entry. I admit, it only barely met the challenge, but I liked the idea too much to pass it up.

Anyway, the reason for this post is that I spent nearly my entire lunch hour there. Part way through, this guy (photo below) shows up. I'm sure he noticed me up above with my camera trained on the stairwell waiting for an unsuspecting government suit to walk up it. So what does he do? He starts circling the stairwell. He was fidgeting for his phone or whatever he could to look busy, pausing every once in a while and striking nonchalant pose leaning up against the stairwell in different spots.

I was thinking, "buddy, I'm not going to shoot you, I won't do it, get the heck out of my shot!" I held my camera down, hoping he'd tire of his game. After a few minutes I decided, ah, maybe he'll be a decent entry, so I relented and took a couple of shots of him. In this one he was pretending to read a paper. He went through a lot of theatrics to get it out, smooth it, and flip through pages, but he never read anything. He was such an obvious poser it was pretty funny in retrospect. Now I'm wishing I'd taken shots of all of his poses, dopey me.

Anybody else have similar experiences?

That's why a bb gun or paintball gun should be part of your equipment list.

These shots were in front of Toronto City Hall. There's a long, curved ramp that I went up to get above this stairwell.

I hate that!! It happens to me all the time. I shoot alot around work , and it is a bit of a tourist spot. The other day this couple were wandering around watching me take time to set up a shot of an old car there. AFter I get all ready they decided to walk over to the car , walk around it, discuss it for an interminable amount of time. They saw me there...I put my camera down and looked at the sky waiting waiting. After about 5, 10 minutes she looks up and smiles and grabs his arm, as if they had just seen me...
Sheesh...I didnt do it, man, I didnt shoot them. No way

Maybe we should then focus on that poser and get right in their face with our cams, get real close, talk to them, ask all kinds of questions.
Or tell them we are shooting for soime freak site and they will be all over the internet in hours!
Bet that'd change the scene!

or you go up to them and tell them you specialize in creative nude photography ask them to take off there cloths for a quick 2 or 3 shots, and tell them you are going back up to get you vantage point....then walk out of sight call the cops.....

never done it but in theory it would get them out of you shot....

_bran(had one or to ppl. but they are always punk kids goofing off and walking through the frame as i take shots)do_

LoL Rae-Ann, maybe it's something in the air in Toronto. I like the painball gun idea.

Yeah, that's even better than my paintball gun suggestion.

edit to add: why just tag 'em when you can make them writhe!

Haha, I've never had a problem with posers. There are more people itching to get away from a shot than anything else. Maybe it's me!
