Why is it that none of the commenters on my entries since midnight have made more comments than they received yet almost all comments on my entries before midnight were from people who have made more comments than they have received?
I must admit though that the comments this morning have been reasonable and not just slapdash trying to qualify for the challenge. Maybe it will help get some people into the habbit of commenting, who knows.
FWIW, I'm greater than 4 to 1, made to received, and probably won't be entering the invitational.

Aw, c'mon Terry; even if you DID, the comments would still be there. My DQ'd yellow ribboner is my second-most-commented image...

my question...
i have made 141 comments, but have received 143. this morning i made around around 10 comments, is that going to make it where i can enter the challenge? i know the stats don't update daily...so how does that work? if not, totally cool. just want to know before i submit.

Same here in one of the two challenges I'm in at the moment. Not that it helps me much, they just don't like it, but can't really explain why LOL.

It should.
To check, go to the submission page for the challenge. If you qualify, it will look normal (that is, you'll see all the fields to upload your file, fill in your details, etc). If not, the fields will be missing and you'll see a message telling you how many comments you still need to make.

| Interesting that this challenge excludes the majority of exceptional photographers because their photos garner a very large number of comments, but also excludes those whose participation is low and have very few comments given. I qualified at the time of entry but within minutes would not have been elegible! |

ack! i went to bed with only less thatn 200 comments and woke up this morning to over 300! lemme catch up guys! i wanna play too.
ETA: I agree with Bear. Ribboning does have their consequences :P

Hahaha! I went to that entry page, and received the message "Sorry, you cannot participate in this challenge due to your lack of commenting. You will need to make xxx *quality* comments to participate."
Man, that's really unfortunate wording! I'm glad I have a sense of humor, because I don't consider 2,850+ comments to be a "lack" of anything :-)

Damn, whatta dilemma! I could go out and shoot for this challenge (it's a lovely day), or I could stay here and comment like crazy to QUALIFY for it, but I can't do both. And even as we speak my ratio is stretching (2 more comments received in the last 10 minutes). What's a poor bear to do?

The warning definitely should have referred to the comment ratio rather than to the number of comments. If we try this again, I'd suggest that eligibility include both comment ratio, and some minimum threshold for a number of comments made.
Plus, it's an excellent point that helpful comments made in a forum thread but not posted to an individual photo's thread are not accounted for.
As a friendly reminder, massive copy-and-paste commenting to qualify for this challenge is not allowed, and we intend to hide (and thus inactivate) any such comments which we find. We want to encourage comments, but please make each comment relevant to the individual picture you're viewing. Thank you ... |

hmm dilemma, I understand. Since you've been so kind to everybody on this site, I think it's about time to think about yourself!
Do what YOU like to do, don't let the community tell you what to do :) (allthough I really can't believe you would do that allready ;))
