Hi guys, just ondering if someone can help me out here.
I go to a lot of concerts and rarely bother taking photos anymore because it just aint worth the trouble with my A70. In fact I made a quick entrance and exit regarding photography and want to get back in after a 2 year stop.
As a result I need a camera that has a good low light performance and probably good zoom aswell.
The low light issue makes me wanna get a dSLR and the zoom issue makes me want to get a super-zoom type camera such as an Canon S3IS.
Id love a dSLR but probably cant justify the cost of a good long range lens etc and they are nowhere near as portable.
I already have some 52mm filters from A70 days if this comes into it.
Maybe I need 2 cameras. Easily argue that point.

| Check out DPCer elmakias. He's shot tons of concerts with a Canon Powershot S2 IS with great results (see his Smugmug galleries also). He's now shooting with a 350XT but most of the shots in his galleries and portfolio are from his Powershot days. |

the S2IS will work in low lit areas only if you have the flash on. It doesnt do to well indoors unless you use the flash, its quite annoying!

The Fuji F-10 is very good in low light.

I recommended this guy a Panasonic FZ5:

I think all his 2005 photos were taken with it.
It helps that he's a good photographer... he really gets the best out of it, but if I had to chose a cheap p&s to take to gigs, that's the one I'd get.

I second the Fuji recommendation, although now it's up to a Fuji Finepix F30, which has full manual controls and ISO3200. The resolution is very good at 6.3mp, but it only has a 3X zoom.
The new crop of high-zoom EVF cameras handles noise better at high-ISO settings (most go to ISO800 or higher now). This includes the Canon S3 IS, Sony H5, Panasonic FZ7 and a Kodak model (I forget which). They are all reviewed briefly in the current issue of Popular Photography. |
